Few questions about set aside and unique characters

Samartain Water Jar SA : Discard this card to reveal the top 3 cards of an opponent's deck (or 9 if a samartain hero is in play) and set them aside. When that deck has no cards return these cards from set -aside to deck.

The Ram with two horns part of SA: opponent must set aside X characters from his territory for 2 turns

1. If water jar sets aside 9 cards from deck , in a player's territory does water jar itself goes into that player's set aside or does it go into the discard pile?

2. Same with Ram with two horns does Ram go into the set aside area with the cards set aside or does it remain in play (if the character survived battle that is)?

3. If player A had character John in their set aside area  , can they play another John card in their territory?

1. The ability says to discard it to do the set aside. You would put it straight to discard.
2. Nothing in Ram with Two Horns SA says to set itself aside. It would not go to set aside.
3. From the REG:
Unique Cards
Many cards have the identifier “unique”. Characters are unique if they represent characters in
the Bible with specific names, have “The” in the title of the character, or otherwise have a
“unique” identifier on the card. All Fortresses, Artifacts, Curses, and Covenants are unique
cards. Players may only control one of each unique card in his territory, set-aside area, or his
side of battle. Different cards that represent the same character are also considered unique
with each other, even if aspects such as the title, brigade, abilities, special abilities, card art or
reference are different.

You may not have a John in set aside and in play.
Hope this helps.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and all your strength.

For the inevitable next question, regarding what happens if a unique character is out and Water Jar would set them aside:

All unique characters are protected from having multiple copies controlled by the same player.  They may not be put into play (or set-aside or anywhere else they 'control' them) when another copy is controlled by that player, and no ability used by that player can place them under his or her control.

For example, other copies of a unique character you control are protected from band and exchange abilities that would place another copy in your control.  If you have a John in play and Water Jar would set him aside, he is protected from the effect (and thus would return to the top of deck).

If a game rule would cause you to have two copies, the newest is discarded.  This rare case is demonstrated by something like this:

My opponent has AutO and Samuel in play.  I band to AutO and exchange to my Samuel in territory.  By the rules of exchange, permanent control of those characters has switched (I now permanently control AutO, and my opponent permanently controls my Samuel).  After battle, my Samuel is to go to my opponent's territory by game rule.  However, that would cause a duplicate, so my copy is discarded.

If there are more unique questions from your playgroup, let us know!
