Few Noob Questions

1.)  My opponent makes a RA w/ Philip banded to Bartholomew.  I defend with Astrologers.  He gives me initiative, I play Invoking Terror on Philip, is it still my initiative or does his Philip have initiative to play a card such as Reach of Desperation?   (also if I were to invoking terror bart would I be able to capture philip?)

*Philip - You may search deck for Bartholomew. May band to Bartholomew. Immune to Greek Evil Characters. Cannot be negated.

*Bartholomew - Negate special abilities on cards with the word “false”, “lying”, “deception”, or “deceit” in the title. Protect disciples from conversion and capture.

*Astrologers - Reveal the top or bottom card of deck. If it is evil, add it to hand and opponent must discard one of his cards from territory, except a Lost Soul. Cannot be interrupted.

*Invoking Terror - Place a human Hero beneath owner’s deck. If used by a multi-color magician, you may place this card beneath deck. Cannot be prevented.

*Reach of Desperation - You may interrupt the battle, draw three cards, and play the next enhancement.

------------------

2.)  If my opponent activates Captured Ark can he shuffle in my Magic Charms which is on a Magician?

*Captured Ark - Upon activation, each opponent must select one active Artifact in own territory and shuffle it back into their draw pile. Each shuffled Artifact is negated. May be used twice.

*Magic Charms - Protect your Magicians from capture and conversion. You may discard this card from your Magician during battle to capture up to two human Heroes.

------------------

3.)  It's my turn I plan Divination,  I get Burial with it, whose initiative is it to play a dominate after Divination is done?  (I want to burial my Lost Soul's card, He wants to Son of God it cause he has 1/2 rescued.)

*Divination - If used by a Magician, look at the top six cards of deck. Select one evil card and add it to hand or battle. Return the rest to the top and/or bottom of deck in any order. Cannot be interrupted.

------------------

4.)How does Covenant with Death effect Balaam?  (Or a character whose special ability can't be prevented.)

*Covenant with Death - Negate characters. Restrict players from playing Enhancements unless a character is opposed in battle. Cannot be negated.

*Balaam - May use gray Enhancements. Search discard pile for a gray or pale green O.T. Curse. Prevent special abilities on Enhancements. Cannot be prevented.

1. You get to put Phil beneath and you still have initiative. He does not get SI bc he isn't losing the battle.
Reach would not get to play until initiative or Si switch to the rescuer.
Bart's protection lasts despite being under decked so if you play invoking terror you place Bart under you couldn't then capture Phil.

2. You get to choose which artifact you shuffle in if you have multiple activated. If charms is your only artifact active the captured ark would shuffle your magic charms.

3. If you took burial with the intention to play it imeadiately you would get to respond to your action and play burial prior to your opponent playing SoG.

4. If CwD is activated as a curse then any character who is CBN or CBP will retain the use of their special ability. CBN pretty clear, CBP cannot be stopped by an ability used prior to the CBP card, it may be stopped after it has been played. CBI can be stopped by an ability used prior to the CBI activation but not by one used afterwards.
This means, If you played CwD in battle on Balaam it woul then negate him bc you would be interrupting Balaam's CBP status and then preventing it before it could take place.

Just as an aside, I think we need to avoid saying it this way, since this is what causes confusion, especially for new players. Balaam cannot be stopped by anything played before him since he is CBP. If a negate is played after him, then he is negated. There is no need to bring "prevent" back into it. Just my  :2cents:

I agree with jbeers, and with the addition made by YMT.

The only thing that I'd say is that what I last heard is that "initiative to respond to your own action" is not really a rule, it just is the tie-breaker in the case of slap-jack.  If you were to play Divination, reveal Burial, and you intend to play it immediately after Divination resolves, just announce you are doing so and throw it on the table right away once you place the other cards.  But technically by the rules, it's only if you tie in throwing down your Burial when they throw down the SoG that you have priority.

First off, thank you for all the responses.

So, how can you prevent something prior to a CPI effect?  Is the only real way if I made a rescue attempt with a BTN character?  So a CBI can't be complete negated after it's played?

So if I use Invoking Terror an opponent CAN play Reach of Desperation than AoC promo before invoking terror takes effect?

-----------------------

Also, 2 additional questions:

1.) If I create a side battle with Sword against Sword and in that side battle my opponent plays scattered does it work on the rescuing hero who isn't in the side battle since scattered doesn't distinguish which battle.

2.) If I make a RA w/ Daniel (promo) and my opponent has 3 heros in Goshen, are they removed?

Anything that is CBI cannot be undone by anything played after it goes off.  For stopping CBI, you have to have a prevent already down, so yes FBTN would do it, as would Covenant with Death (for characters) and some enhancements if they hit battle first.

So if I use Invoking Terror an opponent CAN play Reach of Desperation than AoC promo before invoking terror takes effect?

When an Interrupt the Battle ability goes off, it interrupts ongoing effects, effects causing the defeat of a character on that side of the battle, and the last card (possibly just last enhancement, this is in debate right now) played, if it was played by an opponent.  If you played Invoking Terror, passed initiative, and they played Reach, then Invoking Terror would be interrupted, as it meets the last condition.

While any ability is interrupted, the completion of the ability is undone and "suspended".  In order for it to complete, once the interrupt is over (which includes all other abilities on the card, in this case draw+play), all of the following must be true:
Quote from: The Reg 2.0
 the card on which the ability exists must still be in battle
 if the ability is on an enhancement there must still be a character in battle on which it can activate
 the ability was not prevented while it was interrupted
 the targets of the ability are still legal targets

The second condition will now be false, because Astrologers is not in battle due to an explosion of Christ's judgement.  So, Invoking Terror never reactivates, it just goes to discard instead.

1.) If I create a side battle with Sword against Sword and in that side battle my opponent plays scattered does it work on the rescuing hero who isn't in the side battle since scattered doesn't distinguish which battle.

No.  The reason is that Scattered specifically states "in battle", which means that the target must be in the current battle.

Quote from: The REG 2.0
Battle
The phrase ‘in battle’ or ‘current battle’ refers to any cards in the current battle that can be either the primary battle (rescue attempt or battle challenge) or it can refer to a side battle, NOT BOTH.
See also Battle Phase.
The phrase ‘Field of Battle’ refers to any cards in the Field of Battle including primary battle and side battles.

2.) If I make a RA w/ Daniel (promo) and my opponent has 3 heros in Goshen, are they removed?

No, the capability to hold heroes on Goshen is an identifier, and cannot be negated (as it is not an ability).  The ability on Goshen is negated during the battle phase by Daniel, so no heroes could go there during that phase, but any previous placement of heroes there completed in prior phases and cannot be negated.
