Fail at Stronghold in the Desert?

Type: Fortress • Brigade: Multicolor • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Protect contents from opponents' cards. While occupied, each time an opponent plays an Evil Character of a brigade he does not already have in play, discard the top card of his deck. • Attributes: Holds any number of OT warrior class human Heroes • Identifiers: Holds any number of II Samuel and I Chronicles warrior class Heroes •

You block me with Self while this is up... you must discard 7 top cards (assuming character in stronghold and no ecs out)?

I believe that The Stronghold in the Desert is triggered by the evil Character entering play, not the number of evil brigades that evil Character has.  If that's the case, it would only trigger once per evil Character no matter how many brigades the character possesses.

Hey,

Gabe is right.  You played one Evil Character so you discard one card.  The number of brigades that are not already in play is not relevant to the ability as long as there is at least one brigade of the character that is not already in play.

What about evil characters returning from set-aside?   If the definition of "plays" is to put the card in play, then wouldn't a returning set-aside character (since that is out of play) be putting the character into play and trigger Stronghold?

I disagree with that definition of "plays."

What does "plays" mean for this card?

Plays is probably from hand into play.  But that would you mean you could use a character without playing it (Ambush, Invisible Beings, etc.).

More relevantly, flipping a character from The Darkness may or may not be playing (I have no idea).

Every card that hits field of play is played.  You can play a card from your hand or deck or discard pile.

What am I missing?

When you place a character from hand into The Darkness or via the Site-Guard Lost Soul, is it played? If so, how do you know what brigade it is without revealing it? If not, then is it "played" upon entering battle?

Since face down characters are not "in play," I assume it is considered "played" once it is flipped over.

Ok, that sounds right.  Just to clarify and make sure I understand this correctly:

Quote
Every card that hits field of play is played.  You can play a card from your hand or deck or discard pile.

What am I missing?

What about playing a card from set-aside or Land of Redemption?

Since set-aside characters are not "in play", then it is considered "played" when they return to territory?

Since the Land of Redemption is not "in play", when you play Falling Away on a evil character that had been rescued at what point is it "played"?  Upon returning, since the Land of Bondage is "in play"?  but it is still a lost soul and not an evil character, so only when it is converted back to an evil character?  or

Is it that the card is "played" as a lost soul/captured character when Falling Away is played and later it is converted to an evil character but not "played" since it is already "in play"?
