New Player need some rule clarification on Rescue Attempts

I have looked all over the rules and really cannot find this. I just started playing, basically say we start the game, I draw a Hero, my opponent has a lost soul down already and no evil character to block me, can I attempt to rescue the Lost Soul? or does there always have to be a evil character down in the opponent territory. Issue I would have if this is not the case is I ended up rescuing 4 lost souls in the game with no one blocking me. To me, the way I was thinking after playing is, shouldn't the Lost Soul have some type of evil chracter tied to it that should symbolize what you are trying to defeat to release the Lost Soul from it? That make sense?

Otherwise, great game alternative to Magic with a great message. I am looking forward to introducing at our youth group, which I will start a new thread about.

There does not have to be an EC down to make a rescue attempt. As long as a lost soul is in play and you have access to it, you can make a rescue (of course it has to be your turn).

You can make a rescue attempt regardless of if they have an evil character down or not. Lost souls are not really tied to specific evil characters. The basic idea is that Heroes are trying to overcome the forces of evil to rescue lost souls. You are trying to defeat any evil that could inhibit you from rescuing a soul, whether it be a human, demon, male, female etc.

Thanks, but that made the game way too easy, maybe because they are starter decks and the luck of the draw. Looking forward to getting some new cards.

Don't worry.  As you learn the game more, it gets more challenging :)

To add to what the Prof said, the game not only becomes more challenging but more fun too.

Do you have anyone who plays in your area?  I would suggest playing with people who know the game a little bit already, that really helped me to understand it better, and was a great jumping off point for me, as of right now I'm more knowledgeable about Redemption than they are.  But I would not have been able to get to where I am now if it weren't for playing with people who already knew the basics.

Enjoy this game, it has blessed be with a lot of happiness and I hope sincerely that it will do the same for you.

Blessings,

Wings  :)

Also, can someone block your rescue attempt with a evil character in there hand? or does it have to be in the territory already? I know they cannot pull one out of the set aside area. But thinking you can hide EC in your hand if you do not want to put them down.
