Esau and Joseph Q

Esau's SA says: "Evil capture abilities cannot be negated".

The new Joseph says: "...Enhancements with "Joseph" in title or reference cannot be negated."

If you negate the special abilities on these characters, then are you able to negate capture/Joseph enhancements? I think you can but one of my tournament hosts ruled that you still can't negate them and my friend has been going with that ruling ever since.

Cards that make other cards "cannot be negated" are cannot be negated themselves. So Joseph's enhancements can never be negated when he enters battle, no matter what.

Really? That seems like a really dumb ruling. Unless a card says that itself cannot be negated, it should be able to be negated.

It may seem dumb prima facie, but think about it a bit more and you'll see why it's necessary.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

I don't really see why it's necessary.

Also, I'm assuming that only the part that says "... enhancements cannot be negated" cannot be negated. So on the new Joseph, the search for Storehouse/Goshen can be negated?

So, Minister, please explain to me why this makes sense.

The ____ cards are CBN/CBP because they were made to counter Fight by the Numbers. Also since one of the biggest ways to negate enhancements negate the character too than the ability wouldn't be that useful. It took me a while to understand the reason behind this ruling but I eventually did. It also helped seeing the power of a FBTN deck.

I guess that's true, but using pure logic should show that you could negate that ability. If it shouldn't be negateable then it should have a cannot be negated for that card too. I guess this just makes it easier. Whatever.

One of the game rules is that cards that grant CBN status are, themselves, CBN. It's a game rule, which eliminates the need to say "Cannot be Negated" on every card that gives that ability.
