End the Battle.

After my opponent plays an end the battle card like Forgotten History, do I have a chance to play AotL before he returns back to territory?

Forgotten History (Pi)
Type: Evil Enh. • Brigade: Pale Green • Ability: 0 / 4 • Class: None • Special Ability: Select up to four cards from one opponent’s discard pile and remove them from the game. The battle immediately ends. Cannot be negated • Play As: Search one opponent’s discard pile for up to four cards and remove them from the game. The battle immediately ends. Cannot be negated. •

No. The reason being, once an end the battle card is played the battle phase enters battle resolution. Dominants cannot be played until all battle resolution steps are complete and the battle phase is over at that point.

This is still a little vague.  Is there a window of time between battle resolution & the discard phase when an evil character returns to territory outside of battle or during battle resolution, yet not in the territory in which a dominant can be played?  Where is a character at the point of battle resolution?  Is the character in territory, the battle field, limbo?

It's not vague. An end the battle card moves the battle phase directly to resolution. Nothing happens during resolution except resolving. When the battle
has resolved, it is now the Discard Phase.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Bottom line:

You cannot AotL their EC that is protected by a fortress in their territory after a "battle immediately ends" card is played.

The steps for battle resolution are in the rule book. I don't have time to look them up right now.

Redemption® Rulebook > Diagram of a Turn > Battle Resolution
Evil Character Wins
Your opponent’s Evil Character wins if one of these conditions is met:

•      The Evil Character’s strength is greater than or equal to the Hero’s toughness, and the Hero’s strength is less than the Evil Character’s toughness. The Hero is discarded, and the Evil Character withdraws to your opponent’s territory.

•      Your opponent’s Evil Character repels ignores the Hero. Each Hero and Evil Character withdraws to his owner’s territory.

•      All Heroes were removed from battle. Each surviving Evil Character is returned to his owner’s territory. All enhancements played during the Battle Phase (except set-aside or weapon-class enhancements, or cards such as Thorn in the Flesh placed on other cards during battle) are discarded to the owner’s discard pile. No Lost Soul is rescued.
