Drawn Negate

My opponent attacks with Messengers of Joppa and I block with Foreign Wives with an empty hand. I play Swift horses to interrupt, D3, and play Moses kills the Egyptian. my opponent uses Gifts to allow himself to draw 3, before realizing that doing so would trigger Wives protection. He uses the Gamaliel's Speech he just drew to negate horses. The problem arises in that if horses is negated then he doesn't get to draw off gifts. No draw from gifts means no GS.

Am I correct in remembering that you can't indirectly negate yourself?

You are the draw from gifts is not negated. It was by the card that was negated, but gifts itself was not negated.

Plus if I'm not mistaken FW can not be indirectly negated after her Protection has been activated.

No, FW is CBN. I was referring to whether Speech could indirectly negate itself by negating the draw which drew it.

Two problems here...

Since your opponent is being removed from battle by MKE he would have special initiative to interrupt/negate MKE--he does not have initiative to negate Swift Horses.

Second, he cannot draw from Gifts and then play a negate. The rule for special initiative is that he can first negate MKE and then if he does so (and Swift Horses was not also negated in the process), he can then draw via Gifts. If the opponent cannot interrupt MKE, he can then draw via Gifts but the battle would then end with Messengers being set aside via MKE.

Just for clarity, the rule is that a card cannot indirectly negate itself (such as a FBTN character negating a band, it is still FBTN).  You can still negate your own cards indirectly.

However, Guardian gave the ruling actually applicable to this scenario.

You know, if we are considering making rules more simplified (i.e. no SAs convert with character), then I think we need to somehow eliminate the whole idea of cascading negates and indirect negation. These are the most difficult for a host to rule on, especially for new hosts and young players.

Consider this scenario and see if your proposal makes sense. Ra Jacob band to Angel of hos presence d1 blocked by tfg. Under current rules draw is indirectly negated but under your proposal it sticks.
