Dominants being Dominant

Hello all, it has been quite some time since I posted on these forums. Still remember me? I hadn't played Redemption in a long time until recently, so I'm trying to refresh myself with the rules and I encountered a problem. I've always played Dominants as such that they can't be prevented, negated, etc... But where in the rules does it actually say that? For example if my opponent plays Christian Martyr on a character I have protected by an Artifact, does it just ignore the protection, or does he have to choose a different target?

Covenant with Phinehas: "Protect your Priests from the house of Eleazar from discard abilities on evil cards."

I believe he discarded Zadok, who is house of Eleazar.
Jude is red, Seth is blue, I like Redemption, how about you?

I do remember, though I hadn't thought you'd been away that long ;)

Dominants are, by their card type, Cannot Be Negated.  You cannot negate or prevent or interrupt their ability in any way, shape, or form.

However, unless they say otherwise, that doesn't give them anything special beyond that.  So, just like a CBN enhancement still cannot discard a protected character, Christian Martyr cannot discard a character that is protected.  It does not say "regardless of protection" or "negate protect abilities" or anything else.  You can still protect from a special ability, even if you cannot negate it.

Hopefully that makes more sense.

That makes way more sense! I was working through the terminology of "cannot be negated" and "protect" and wasn't sure how they interacted but now I see. Thanks!
