Does Jacob have to bury the foreign gods?

Hey,
With "Jacob buries Foreign gods", do you have to negate and discard an idol to activate discard/convert EC?  Or are they mutually exclusive?  Could it be that playing the enhancement gets the discard/covert and getting rid of an artifact is bonus?

Please post abilities.

Jacob Buries the Foreign gods
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Blue • Ability: 3 / 4 • Class: None • Special Ability: Negate and discard all idols. If used by a Genesis Hero, discard a demon or convert a human Evil Character in battle to a blue brigade Hero. • Attributes: False Religious Practice • Identifiers: OT, False Religious Practice • Verse: Genesis 35:2 • Availability: Rock of Ages (Set 14)

The abilities are mutually exclusive, so you can still convert with out a discard.  However, it is not a "may" ability, soyou must do both if possible.

sorry to annoy you, sk. :(  I do that to keep people who don't know the rules or the cards from posting their ideas instead of the facts.  8)

Hey,

The abilities are mutually exclusive, so you can still convert with out a discard.  However, it is not a "may" ability, soyou must do both if possible.

The discard a demon and convert a human abilities are mutually exclusive.  The negate an idol and discard/convert are independant.

Ah, good call.  I never did get any of that statistics lingo right.  For the record, the discard I intended to refer to in my first sentence was the idol, and I grouped the discard/convert of ECs together.

It doesn't matter whose it used by in relation to my question....a Genesis hero is obvious.  I wanted to know: if my opponent doesn't have an idol in play to discard, could I still discard or convert their EC.

Yes, you can still (discard/convert an EC).  The (discard idol) ability is independent of the (discard/convert an EC) ability.

1. The (discard idol) ability tries to target all idols for discard.
     a. If all players do not have an idol, it sees none, the first ability fizzles, and you continue to step 2.
     b. If they do have an idol, the idol(s) are discarded, and you continue to step 2.
2. The (discard/convert an EC) ability tries to target an EC.
