If i'm attacking Prince of this World with a lone hero, and I play a discard card that cannot be prevented, is he still not affected?

You have to interrupt the immune ability in order to target the character (or other card) with it, so in your example, using a CBP enhancement wouldn't work against Prince of this World, unless it was an "interrupt the battle and..." enhancement.
