Divination

I've got an order of operations question.

Divination - 6/0 PG Enhancement
If used by a Magician, look at the top six cards of deck.  Select one evil card and add it to hand or battle.  Return the rest to the top and/or bottom of deck in any order.  Cannot be interrupted.

I play Divination in battle (on a magician), and I add an evil character from my top 6 cards to battle; does the evil character's ability activate as soon as it enters battle or does it activate after Divination's ability completes?

Part of adding the evil card to battle is it's ability activing and completing.  That would take place before the third sentence of Divination - Return the rest ot the top and/or bottom of the deck in any order.

So if you added Astrologers to battle, you wouldn't be able to assure that it would work with Divination? Bummer.

Hey,

I disagree with Gabe on this one.  He is correct that part of adding the evil card to battle is it's ability activating.  But the third sentence, like the second sentence, is part of the search ability that starts in the first sentence.  You have to finish the search before you can start any other ability.

If I play Great Faith, search for Reach of Desperation, and exchange it into battle I put the deck back before I attempt to draw for Reach of Desperation.  Divination works the same way, I have to put the cards I searched back before I can start performing a new ability.

From a technical point of view, the first three sentences on Divination are three separate abilities that are paired.  You cannot insert a separate ability in between paired abilities when they are being carried out (similar to how wrong it is to improperly split infinitives :) ).  So the card you add to battle is carried out after the rest of Divination completes.

*anxious to hear official ruling*

I've got a cool idea in mind if this works out in my favor.  Granted, it's pretty conditional, but would be pretty cool to pull off.  I think Divination is my favorite TexP card so far.  ;D

I like it because it fits perfectly with the particular strategy I'm toying with, though Habakkuk does look pretty nifty.  I like cards that don't require me to be playing some specific Cactus defined strategy for them to work.  I realize that magicians are Cactus defined, but you can include them in to other defenses wherever you need them, since they have interesting stand-alone abilities.  You can't exactly splash Philistine Outpost into a defense that doesn't focus on Philistines.

Sure you can! Amon +Manneseah. YOu can use Outpost to get Manny into the D/C pile, then you can use it to insure that you have something to recur with Amon.
