Title: Discard+Angelw/Chamber
Post by: RTSmaniac on April 01, 2011, 05:28:46 PM
I make my opponent discard a good card from hand  and they discard an angel with chamber down and angel goes to chamber. Is this a legal play?

Not anymore because I am Holy with chamber doesn't work anymore either. Not sure where the thread on this is but I'm 90% sure. (Notice I said not 100%)
Wait for an elder verification.

I'm not sure what I am Holy has to do with this question, unless the question is incomplete. Discarding an angel from hand is still triggering Chamber, which insteads the discard.

Now, if the discard was a conditional ability, then the other part of the ability would not trigger, since the discard was insteaded.

If your opponent discarding a card from hand was the cost of an ability, then the benefit part of the ability could not be carried out, since it was "insteaded"...  Instead.  But assuming that Chamber can target an angel that goes straight from your hand (not in play) to the discard pile, then it seems legal.

That's is the thing I don't think it can target an angel going straight from the hand to the d/c pile anymore. I've played a couple a games when my opponent has discarded an angel and hasn't put them in chamber.

According to Bryon, Chamber doesn't actually target anything, it just insteads the ability that is trying to discard an angel. As such, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't affect angels from hand/deck sent directly to the discard pile.

From the REG:

Instant Special Abilities > Discard or Remove > Special Conditions
•      You may discard an angel from hand and place it in Chamber of Angels (AW) instead of the discard pile.

Precisely. It is just like using Angel of the Lord on a NT character, and the owner using Herod's Temple. Just because nothing was discarded doesn't mean that Angel of the Lord's ability wasn't carried out.

Precisely. It is just like using Angel of the Lord Christian martyr on a NT character, and the owner using Herod's Temple. Just because nothing was discarded doesn't mean that Angel of the Lord's Christian martyr's ability wasn't carried out.

Fixed

What about Elymas the Sorcerer, his ability is then by this thread being completed. (This is assuming WS is in battle)

I dont understand the correlation your trying to make CJSports. Elymas cost becomes a replacement effect (aka insteaded) with the addition of Wandering Spirit and the benefit is lost.

My point is that your insteading the discard with chambers so your opponent shouldn't have to discard. Another thing is that how can chambers target something out of play when it is not specifically targeting something out of play because discarding an angel from hand never enters play.

Chamber doesn't target anything. Bryon's explained this a few times with the Dust and Ashes question that came up recently. Chamber just replaces the game rule of "Angels that get discarded go to the discard pile" to "Angels that get discarded go to Chamber".
