when do they return?

I'm trying to find a use for Stalks of Flax?, the artifact that exchanges your heros for opponent's.

During the turns that our heros are exchanged, can I use my good set-aside enhancement on those temporary heros?  If I can do they return when the exchange is over or are they stuck until I decide to bring them back?  If they are stuck, then what happens if I decide to end the set-aside 8 turns later?

If they are anywhere but your territory when it comes time to "exchange back," they stay yours permanently. So you could use Stalks of Flax to grab some doods, then set them aside with Standing in the Gap or The Lord Fights for You for >2 turns, then they're yours. But beware, your opponent can do the same with the characters you gave him.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Not necessarily saying that your wrong, but do you have any logic/support for this? I have never heard this ruling.

For reference:

Stalks of Flax
Type: Artifact • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: On activation, discard this card to exchange two O.T. human Heroes in your territory with two Heroes in an opponent's territory for two turns. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Joshua 2:6 • Availability: Thesaurus ex Preteritus booster packs ()

First, I was looking through the REG, and there are several things in Set-Aside that need to be clarified, especially when it comes to setting aside your opponent's characters. Here's one thing that would seem to contradict what you say though:

Quote from: REG>Instant Abilities>Set-Aside
Cards are set aside in their owners’ respective set-aside areas

Exchanging changes the control of a card, but not the owner, so it seems that a card that would allow you to set-aside an exchanged for character would relinquish your control of the character. But like I said, it seems as if the whole section needs revamping, so take that with a grain of salt.

I would wait for other elders to give their opinion, but my feeling is that this part of the REG would only help your opponent with set-asides on exchanged heroes by giving their heroes whatever benefit they would receive.

So if I set aside a Flax'd hero in Kereth Ravine, it gets removed from Kereth Ravine and just kind of wanders over to my opponent's Set-Aside area? I'd say that doesn't sound right, and that section (like most of the REG) is flawed and incorrect.

I think it sounds fine actually. However, if that particular phrase is in fact wrong, I would suggest that no matter where the heroes who have been exchanged by SoF are at the end of two turns, the control of the hero automatically returns to the owner. I don't think set-aside heroes would be an exception.

What I don't understand is how do the heros return if they are "stuck" somewhere?  The return wouldn't end the set-aside, right?  Even if the heros are now back to original ownership, the set-aside was played by the opponent.  Wouldn't the "ownership" of the set-aside card and its effect (when to return the hero) be determined by that owner?  I don't see how I would get control of their set-aside enhancement even if it is now my hero.

I don't think so.  You can't set aside your opponent's characters unless your card says to do so.  And although you control your opponent's characters temporarily with Flax, you still don't own them.

Hey,

Characters that you gain control of by Stalks of Flax have the same set aside restrictions as characters you gain control of by banding.  You can only use normal set asides on characters you permanently control, and you don't permanently control a character that goes back to its original owner in two turns.

There are only two ways to stop a Flaxed character from being returned after two turns:  Targeting a Flaxed hero with another ability that changes (or redefines) who controls the hero (capturing it or targeting it with a second Stalks to Flax), or Returning it to it's proper owner before the two turns expire (discarding it or shuffling it into deck).

Tschow,
