Definition of Defeat

We've updated the definition of "Defeat" for the REG. I posting it here for everyone's information as well as your feedback. It's possible we have overlooked something than another experienced player will catch. ;)

A Hero is defeated when:
1. The Hero is removed from the field of battle because of a special ability.
2. The battle ends with the Hero being discarded by the numbers of the EC(s) in battle (except in the case of a mutual destruction).
3. The battle ends in a stalemate.

An Evil character is defeated when:
1. The EC is removed from battle because of a special ability (except for mutual destruction by mutual removal)
2. The battle ends with the EC being discarded by the numbers of the Hero(es) in battle.
3. The battle ends with the EC being ignored by a Hero or Heroes in battle and no non-ignored ECs in battle are defeating the Hero.

One significant point of note is that "defeat" does not have anything to do with whether the battle is/was an RA or BC, so Heroes are not defeated if the RA becomes a BC. So this provides a definitive answer to Potiphar's Wife+Failed Objective--the Hero is not captured.

Thanks for the ruling.  It will definitely help clear some issues up.

A Hero is defeated when:
1. The Hero is removed from the field of battle because of a special ability.

I have a few questions on this.

First, does this mean that Potiphar's Wife + Grapes of Wrath defeats all heroes in battle now, and if they are male, they are captured to opponent's land of bondage?

Second (and not dependent on the question above), consider this scenario:  My opponent attacks me with Abishai/Ishmaiah/Asahel/Heldai/Benaiah.  I block with Fallen Warrior.  I play Bringing Fear.  Did Fallen Warrior defeat all heroes but Abishai?  It was a special ability that caused the other 4 heroes to leave battle.

1) There is still some discussion on whether or not there is a distinction between "a Hero is defeated when..." and "an EC defeats a Hero when...". I'm not sure if that was fully resolved, but I know that in the past PW didn't get to capture a male Hero defeated by CM/Writ etc. We will get back to you (soon, hopefully)

2) Negate is tricky, because it has been ruled in the past that a negated band results in those characters having never been in battle in the first place, so I would have to say the other characters are not defeated. I would wait for additional input though. FWIW, in the example you provided, FW wouldn't get the benefit of all those Heroes because BF would negate his ability, but let's say he played Flight and the CBP LS was out...or something. Then my point stands.

Quick question: When playing with experience credit, for what is each side awarded a +1/+1, and does that change with the new ruling on defeat?

Heroes gain 1/1 if they are in battle during battle resolution and the result of the battle is a successful rescue attempt. (LS is rescued or Heroes released from Raider's Camp.)

Evil Characters gain 1/1 for any successful block (rescue attempt or battle challenge).

That is how I've understood it to work.

I'm more wondering if we could tie the gaining of 1/1 to defeating the enemy, personally.

For example, what is a successful block of a battle challenge?  Defeating the heroes?  Stalemate?
