If I play JiP on Cain and my opponent can't stop it, is he considered defeated?

Cain - If Cain is defeated in battle, discard any Hero in a territory.

Joseph in Prison - Interrupt the battle and remove all cards in battle from the game.

He is not being defeated period.
"A Hero is defeated when:
1. The Hero is removed from the field of battle because of a special ability.
2. The battle ends with the Hero being discarded by the numbers of the EC(s) in battle (except in the case of a mutual destruction).
3. The battle ends in a stalemate.

An Evil character is defeated when:
1. The EC is removed from battle because of a special ability (except for mutual destruction by mutual removal)
2. The battle ends with the EC being discarded by the numbers of the Hero(es) in battle.
3. The battle ends with the EC being ignored by a Hero or Heroes in battle and no non-ignored ECs in battle are defeating the Hero"

I figured that you knew, I just wanted it to be clear for all who read this thread.
