Is there a maximum number of evil characters and heros you can have played at any one time?

Aside from duplicate rules regarding unique characters, there's no game limit on characters in play. There may be a special ability somewhere than can do this, but no game rule.

No, the max deck size is 250,
250 -26 souls (required number) = 224

It is greater than 224, actually.

SWS. Exchange for opponent's character. RA with 10/10 hero. Opponent blocks with SWS (doesn't exchange) it dies. Recur it (several ways that can be done infinitely I assume). In a MP game, it should be possible to get 1K ECs in your territory (assuming Redemption has enough uniques/generics, which I'm not sure of).
