Suzanna is blocked by Nero while HH Idols is active. She wants to play Spirit as a Dove to search her deck and add Joseph of Arimathea to the battle. Since Joseph was "added to the battle" rather than banded in, is this a legal way to get around HH Idols?

I don't think so, I remember hearing that "add to battle" abilities are "band" abilities.

Thanks. Is this the "official" ruling on this? I can't find "add to battle" when I search for it on the REG.

Any ability that adds a character to battle is a band ability. But if a band ability brings a character into battle on a side of battle no character is present, that is not a banding action but is rather a blocking action.

Abilities that allow a second character to join the battle should be played as if they allowed an additional character to join the battle.

The phrases “band with,” “bring in,” and “join the battle” all mean ”band to.”
