should damsel with spirit be classified as a demon? for one, her name implies she has an evil spirt/demon inside her. and two, her latest incarnation has her half orange, which i thought was reserved for only demons. so why isnt she identified as a demon?

yes, damsel WITH spirit. that's not saying the damsel is a spirit, but it is clear that two entities are present: a human and spirit.

I suppose it's like the half-orange/half-other brigade "The Winged XXXX" evil characters. They're completely demons but they are connected with those other brigades. Damsel is completely human but she is connected with demons.

I would say it should be both.

Well, you can't be converted to an EC, you start out as one though.
