CWD and placed GEs

How does CWD interact with GEs placed in a prior phase?  Are GEs "Restricted"at all times from activating, except when characters are opposed in battle?  Examples:

1.  Abom is in my opponent's territory from a prior turn when I activate CWD.  I play Mayhem.  Can I discard a card in opponent's territory with Abom?

2.  Peace is placed on my hero from a prior turn when I activate CWD.  I attack with that hero.  Are we tossing enhancements this battle?  If not immediately, what about when a blocker is presented?

3.  Lifting the Curse is placed in my territory from a prior turn when I activate CWD.  Do I need a hero in battle for my opponent to activate LtC and discard CWD?

Covenant With Death - Negate characters. Restrict players from playing Enhancements unless a character is opposed in battle. Cannot be negated.

Abomination of Desolation - If used by a Greek, place in opponent's territory. Each time opponent draws cards (except during draw phase), you may discard a card in that territory except a Lost Soul.

Peace - Place on your clay or blue Hero: When this Hero is in battle alone, toss all Enhancements played this battle. Cannot be interrupted.

Lifting the Curse - Place this card in your territory: At any time, you may discard this card to negate and discard a Curse (or an evil Enhancement in your territory).

CWD doesn't restrict activating abilities on enhancements that have already been placed, it only stops enhancements from being played initially (and also Weapon activation at the start of battle)

Enhancements that are placed have already been played.  CwD does nothing to them, because they are not 'being played' so there is not a problem with them being used.

Ok.  I wasn't sure, because under the definition of "Play" in the REG, it says:

Play
A card is considered “played” if it meets these criteria:
1. You play an enhancement by attempting to activate its special ability (or numbers in battle)

So a card that is "played" and that has an ongoing ability (like Peace or Abom) is, by this definition, continually being "played" as it continues to activate its ability.

My understanding is that it's special ability activates once, but stays activated while not negated. Then if a condition is met it is triggered, not reactivated.
