Covenant of Prayer

I got a question about Covenant of Prayer. Today me and a friend were playing and I played Son of God and it was in my discard pile he removed my discard pile from the game. I played Covenant of Prayer "you may banish this card to add to hand your card that was banished by a opponent or a card from Reserve" so I got the Son of God back played it and then use Second Coming to get Son of God out of discard pile does this work this way?

Can you really play Son of God 3 times during a game?

That is correct. Removing an opponent's discard pile from the game is a bit riskier of a play now.  8)

So let's say my son of God has been removed from the game by confusion or some other card and I play Covenant of prayer which lets me go and get the son of God can my opponent play Treasures of War which negates and discards an active or the last active of artifact? And what if I play the son of God before he has a chance to play Treasures of War? Is this just a timing issue to see who plays which card first? Or what if he announces he's going to play Treasures of War when I activate Covenant of Prayer even though it hasn't completed can I get the Son of God and play it before he plays Treasures of War?

Did anyone get a chance to see this or have an answer for me?

1. Yes, he can play ToW (so long as it was already in his territory) once CoP's ability is resolved.

2. If you play SoG before he uses ToW then CoP would be negated and discarded; however, since dominants are CBN the rescue would still go through and your SoG would be banished once again.

3. In this scenario it would be a timing thing about who plays what first (SoG or ToW). If there was a debate about this in a tourney regarding who played what first then I'd default to the active player (SoG in this case).

Do note that ToW can't negate CoP if the phase that CoP was used is passed. (Again, if I'm remembering correctly. It's because CoP was banished and once the phase that it left the field it can't be negated because the effect has resolved permenantly.)
They seem pretty lame as fighters maybe we should challenge them to a dance off or a redemption game

Correct. ToW being played in the same phase was assumed in the scenario due to SoG being played right away.

I would rule in favor of the person playing SoG every time because you can't activate ToW until SoG is in your hand from whence you can play it before there is a possibility of an insertion.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

I feel I agree along the lines of responding to your own ability (same logic as to why you can't Vain Philosophy in between someone's SoG/TSC)

Agreed. However, if the player using CoP did not play SoG, but instead began to make a rescue attempt, the player with ToW could trigger it before the prep phase ended.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that with the current Dominant rule, if you play TSC during your opponent's turn, your opponent could play Vain before you get to play Son of God. Since it is turn-dependent then the current player gets a chance to play a dominant first, right? It seems a bit silly to me but I think that was a side effect of the much-needed change.

I could be wrong but that's how I heard it worked out.

That is indeed correct--the player whose turn it is always has dominant priority.
