Covenant of Noah as enhancement

Been scouring this board, but couldn't find this answer.
So, with the errata on CoN: "Covenant of Noah - You may discard this card to negate one evil enhancement."

How does that work when played as an enhancement?
I get that is must be discarded...or is that only when played as an artifact? The numbers are really pointless if it discards when played as an enhancement...

unless...

...it is NOT playable out of my hand to negate the last enhancement...meaning that it has to have been played in battle prior to the card you want to negate?

So, as long as you never use it's ability, then the numbers apply, but if you use the negate, then the numbers disappear. Right?

Thanks!

They may not have been thinking about it being used as an enhancement when they errata'd the ability.

INE, but I would rule that when you play it as an enhancement you decide either to not use the ability (since it's a "may") or you immediately discard it to negate an evil enhancement.

I don't have an answer, but it seems to me that it was intended for use as an artifact, and not much thought was given to it's use as an enhancement.  I don't think it can be used as an interrupt.

Yes it can. You can play it then discard it to interrupt an enhancement. The numbers are not pointless either, as you can play it with discarding which of course means you don't interrupt anything. But you can play it on Noah, and it becomes a brutal 4/10 TO THE FACE!

I think you meant without discarding.

The numbers are also useful if the enhancement is prevented (i.e. by King of Tyrus) or interrupted after it is played. That is why it is more useful as an artifact, since the discard makes it difficult to interrupt.
