Title: Covenant of Noah
Post by: Gabe on June 29, 2010, 06:13:02 PM
An errata has been issued to make Covenant of Noah play as a cost/effect card as it was originally intended.  This will avoid broken combos that allow it to be used over and over, instead of the one time that was intended.

Covenant of Noah - You may discard this card to interrupt and prevent one evil enhancement.

while your at it, why not just say negate? interrupt and prevent is old terminology isn't it? or... would a cannot be prevented card be safe from this?

I don't think so because it interrupts the CBP first and then prevents it unless the card says cannot be prevented or negated of course. i'm pretty sure that's is how it was ruled.

CNB enhancements and CBI enhancements are safe from CoN.  CBP enhancements are fair game.

I applaud this ruling...although it was a little late to stop RTS Maniac from abusing Jaddua/CoN at the EC Regionals this past weekend  :-\

The point of my comment was, everyone says ignore is not equal to interrupt and prevent anymore. I've always treated Cov of Noah as a negate, why was the wording not updated in the errata?

Is Interrupt and Prevent different from Negate?

I agree that it would be better to update the wording to say "negate".

Any reason besides the fact that they are spelled differently.  :P

The errata was made because otherwise, you could endlessly use it if paired with Jaddua.

Before, it simply negated, then discarded itself. Jaddua stopped the discard, so it never died. Now, you need to discard it to use it, so you cant abuse it with Jaddua.

It plays the same as it always has, but its not broken now.
