Side Battle Clarification - Minimal Headaches :)

I was under the impression that only 1 side battle could occur per battle phase. I personally recall the AAA at Natz 2006 ("Anti-Alstad Announcement:"). But as I was sifting ruling on this, I saw someone mention that there could be multiple side battles, the owner simply cannot control the 2nd (and following) side battles(s).

So is this principle true? If so, is it printed/clarified anywhere?

I believe the rule is that each player may start one side-battle per turn. However, there are cards like The Long Day, Grapes, and Ambush the City that are not side battles.

Here is the issue that gives us trouble in our playgroup:

Kallen uses King Rehoboam (crimson) and Christian Suing Another in the same deck.

If he blocks with Rehoboam (Side Battle non-optional) does he essentially by game rule "prevent" Christian Suing Another?

Basically, yes. A player may only initiate a side-battle once per turn.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

At this point, are side battles still "counted" if they are negated? And actually... I have a general question about how negates interact with side battles...

Example: Joel vs. Judas. I play Sword of the Lord to start a side battle. I control Leviathan, they control their blocking Judas. Unfortunately my opponent has Midianites Attack. It is now FBTN, and with Judas surviving, he returns to the main battle.

1) Does Midianites attack reapply to the main battle? (I could see a "no", as the "battle determined by the numbers" could be that specific battle).

2) If Midianites attack does apply, and successfulyl negates SotL, could I then play Abel's Sacrifice + Visions and start another side battle (presumably "yes" as the "first" side battle never happened... but there is room for broken combos in T2 here, specifically in Gold Brigade, lol...).

I seem to remember something about FBTN defaulting only to the side battle.  I'm not sure, maybe Pol or an Elder can help with that.

From the REG regarding Side Battles:

So... is "fight by the numbers" an "ongoing" ability?

Sing and Praise (as well as Visions) may set a precedent: they both specify that enhancements are negated only in the side battle. I could see it argued that since Midianites Attack, Mask of Fear, etc. do not specifically target the side battle that they would continue into the main battle.

Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Red • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Force two Evil Characters to fight each other. Negate special abilities on evil Enhancements played in that side battle. • Play As: Holder may take any two Evil Characters in play and cause them to fight each other in a side battle. Negate special abilities on evil Enhancements played in that side battle. • Identifiers: OT, Involves Music • Verse: Judges 5:3 • Availability: Priests booster packs (Rare)

I'd be fine with a game rule defaulting FBTN to side battles though, it would cut added confusion...

I may be missing something (and am quite often a couple fries short :o) but I don't think that this game rule applies the issue. Mask of Fear played in a side battle is not "prevented" it is "preventing" (and interupting). Does the FBTN carry back to the original battle? This MUST be a common question... I've ruled in the past that FBTN on a surviving character carries back into the original battle (thus, often, negating the side battle itself)...

General negation abilities (negate all X) truly do negate everything of that in play. If a "FbtN Character" is in battle, Herod's Treachery will not work. It's not a matter of "FbtN surviving," so much as that it negated the original battle in the first place.

As to Sing and Praises, anything played during the side-battle that is not CBP or CBN will never work.
