Converted Character Abilities

Do these characters have no abilities after conversion?  (Not obvious ones like banding, access to all sites, etc).  I thought that some of them still worked.  How do we know if the ability still works any more?

One example I can remember was when my Genesis Simeon was converted to an EC.  I still had female Genesis heros in play.  If I blocked with Simeon, did his ability happen?  Why or why not?

Thanks for helping us decide when an ability continues and when it does not.

Converted heroes to ECs never have abilities. Converted ECs to heroes sometimes have abilities. No one really knows the specifics of when they have abilities.

A hero converted to an EC never keeps its ability. An EC converted to a hero only keeps its ability if it doesn't harm heroes. (That's how I remember it at least.)

First, Heroes converting to EC's is easy: their SA's never activate. A converted Hero is basically an EC with an SA that can never activate.

EC's converting to Heroes is a bit trickier, but the general rules to follow are this:

Heroes can never band to Evil Characters (so a converted Lot's Wife wouldn't work)

Heroes can never block (so converting Assyrian Siege Army doesn't allow you to use his ability)

If an Evil character's SA could specifically target a Hero as an EC (harm a Hero), it can't target a Hero as a Hero. Thus, a converted Jezebel could not discard an evil card to remove a green Hero. This doesn't apply to non-specific discards from hand, deck, or territory (i.e. if an EC converted to a Hero forces an opponent to discard a card from territory, hand, or top of deck, that card can be a Hero).

That covers 99.9% of situations; if there is anything that doesn't seem to fit within these guidelines (undoubtedly there is) and you happen to find it, let us know.

Are you sure about that? I'd thought accepting a taunt was considered a block.

Nope.

Quote from: REG
Block

Blocking is the attempt to prevent a rescue. Only Evil Characters may block. Whenever an Evil Character enters the Field of Battle against a Hero (regardless of what point the battle is), that is considered a block.

It should probably be updated to include Battle Challenge, but the second sentence clarifies that only EC's may block and only vs. Heroes.

So converted ECs 1) Are still protected by their corresponding evil fortresses?, 2) Can still discard/affect non-hero cards? (Like Assyrians Spoilers discarding face-down artifacts if another Assyrian is in play)

Thanks again.

1) I think all of the protect forts specify Evil Characters (I just checked, and both Gates, House of Rimmon, Assyrian Camp, Pharaoh's Throne Room, Headquarters at Riblah, and Temple of Dagon all do, not sure if I missed one). Which means it doesn't help converted EC's of that civ. I guess Haman's Gallows does stop Persian Heroes from being ignored, but...

2) Yes. A converted EC can always search for, discard, activate, shuffle, etc. etc. any card good or evil, except for Heroes.

Last questions:  Do their weapons go away?  If not, do their abilities still work?

Weapons convert with their bearers and follow the exact same rules for SA conversion.

Also, to simplify what the Professor said, Evil Abilities convert unless they specifically target Heroes. What is meant by specifically targeting Heroes is if the word "Hero" (or maybe "Good Character" on some older cards) is used as the target of an ability.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Their weapons stay, and the abilities work along the same guidelines as the Heroes. So Two Thousand Horses would allow you to draw and play next (kind of like Ethiopian Treasurer's ability) but Abner's Spear would allow you to discard a Hero in battle (in case you wanted to)

FTFY. I've always wanted to say that non-sarcastically.

Why wouldn't Abner's spear be able to target heroes? Samson's Sacrifice targets heroes.

You're thinking of the old definition. "Un/Hero-like" has nothing to do with abilities converting anymore, just whether it targets a Hero.
