I know its a rule that a character can't enter battle more than once per turn, but how does that work with:
1) Returning to deck and then bringing it out again: such as Wandering Spirit returning to bottom of deck then using Gates to bring it back.
2) Returning a unique character to deck then banding another copy from your hand.
3) Can I exchange a unique red character with another copy of the same character in my deck with Wheel Within a Wheel (Prophets). What if its a generic character?
I think cards should reset if they return to hand, deck or discard pile even in regards to multiple entries to battle, however I'm not sure how it is being ruled.
Wandering Spirit (TP)
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Orange • Ability: 3 / 4 • Class: None • Special Ability: Reveal the bottom card of deck. If it is a demon, put it in your territory. May band to a generic demon. If your demon is discarded, place it beneath deck instead. Cannot be negated.
The Gates of Hell (TP)
Type: Fortress • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: At any time, you may discard the bottom card of deck. If it is an orange demon or a Lost Soul, place it in your territory instead. You may discard this card to add your demon to the battle.
Wheel within a Wheel (Pr)
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Red • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Holder may exchange current Hero with any Hero from holder's draw pile. Shuffle after exchange.

This is one of the topics that is still under discussion by the Elders.
-
There is a precedent set in place that may be about to change. Currently:
1. Yes, as long as it is a Generic character
2. No
3.a No
3.b Yes
-
The answer to all three questions is actually no at the present time. This coincides with what is written in the REG and what was just ruled at Nationals last weekend.
Some of the elders would like it if a generic character could be in battle more than once per turn. If the outcome of that discussion creates a change we will let you know.
-
Then please add that to your list of changes.
-
So if you choose to band Wandering Spirit to Wandering Spirit since it's generic, but if it's returned to deck, I can't then band it in from there? I'm confused on that one...
-
Then please add that to your list of changes.
That's not a change, it's what the old REG has always said. It's something I was trying to get "fixed" because I believe a unique character should be able to enter battle multiple times.
I wasn't aware that the document for the new REG had received this change because I believe the proper wording is still under discussion, but I just found this under Instant Abilities > Banding > Special Conditions:
A unique character can only enter the field of battle once per turn. A unique character in a battle is protected from entering another battle while it remains in battle. A unique character in a battle that leaves the battle is protected from entering any battle until the end of the turn.
I will add this to the list of changes.
-
Does this mean that you can't use any unique character in a battle as one of the characters in a side-battle?
I'm still confused about my previous post, as well. Either I'm not understanding what someone said, or I'm not understanding why that's the case. :)
-
You aren't the first person to be confused by that statement. I didn't think that was going to be published in the REG yet because we're still working on a clear, concise statement that doesn't cause loopholes or other changes.
The portion of the REG I quoted only pertains to banding (it's from the entry for banding abilities). It does not pertain side battles.
To answer your first question: You can add as many Wandering Spirit to battle as you have banding abilities to add them with because they are generic.
Second question I think I answered above. Let me know if that's clear as mud.
-
Let me know if that's clear as mud.
Yep!
I understand the first question clearly, but for the second what I think I hear you saying is that the REG quote needs to be revised so that it doesn't make it sound like it pertains to side battles since it doesn't. Unique characters cannot re-enter a battle or start a new battle during the same turn, right?
-
You are correct. :)
