Characters entering battle

I have seen similar questions but no clear answer to this.

My opponent rescues and I block with the orange Wandering Spirit (the one that puts your discarded demons on the bottom of your deck).

My opponent then plays AoC and my demons go to the bottom.  I then use Gates of Hell to put them back in my territory.  Can I then use Gates to add Wandering Spirit back into battle?  What if Wandering Spirit was shuffled instead?

I think we need a clear rule on generic characters entering battle.

i may be corrected, but off the top of my head i'm thinking that once any character enters the battle then he may not re-enter the battle (except with The Long Day which is a whole new battle.) i dont think that generic has anything to do with it. then again i may be wrong...
Can't think of something clever to say...sorry if you were expecting inspirational and/or witty...

here's a couple quotes from the REG:

"However, if the character brought into battle by a banding
special ability is discarded or withdrawn from battle (voluntarily or by force), that character may not re-enter the battle that turn (this
includes any side battle happening the same turn)."

"• If a character is forced to withdraw (e.g., Darkness (Warriors)) or withdraws from a battle voluntarily (e.g.,
Highway), it may not re-enter the current battle [p. 54]. Moreover, the character may enter on a new battle on the
same turn (e.g., The Long Day)."

Pretty sure that rule only applies to unique characters.

i disagree- i think its any character that has entered battle that turn.
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

This is normally the case.  However, this situation is a bit unique because the original blockers were sent to deck, and typically cards reset when they go to deck or hand.  The question is whether this "reset" also includes the fact that they were in battle.

If I remember correctly from some T2 rulings, it does not.
