This definition is being expanded to include all card types your opponent has in battle that are causing the removal of your character. This change is already reflected in the new REG entry.
Ex: Magic Charms discarded from a Magician in battle can be interrupted by an Interrupt the Battle card.

Magic Charms in territory is still CBI then, correct?

Yes, Interrupt the Battle will still only target cards that are in battle.

I'll ask this on the other side as well Gabe, but will ITB affect Charms before it gets used - Example - Lydia rescues and is blocked by a Charm wearing Magician. Lydia wants to play Words of Encouragement followed by a convert. Does Words interrupt the ongoing conversion protection on Charms? Or is it only when Charms is being used to capture?

It interrupts all ongoing abilities on cards in battle, including those on Artifacts that have wandered into battle.
