Card Condition

Is there a standard ruling on how poor a cards condition can be until it cant be used in a tournament?

To what condition can it be if played in a sleeve?
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

The card has to be in such a condition that, even in a sleeve, it cannot be discerned from the other cards in the deck by visual inspection. Severely damaged cards tend to stand out in a deck.

It also needs to have a readable reference, ability, numbers and card name.

Altered art is usually acceptable as long as it is used the way it was intended to be printed.

Well if that doesn't sound like a setup question, then I don't know what does.  ;)

If you have to question it this much, then I would suggest that you don't use the card.

We weren't talking about alternative art cards, we were talking about poor condition cards. However, any such cards must be cleared through the deck-checker judge/host, since they are not tournament legal. Even if a primary judge clears it, if an opponent complains about a questionable card, the ruling judge may still have to remove the card from the game. That is why I say it is better to just not bring questionable cards to a major tournament. I'm sure that most hosts/judges/players will not care, but realize that art some may consider wicked others may find objectionable/offensive.

My opinion is that if I can read it, then I can play it. For altered/alternate art, as long as it doesnt change the card and isnt really offensive, I don't care.
They seem pretty lame as fighters maybe we should challenge them to a dance off or a redemption game

You are entitled to your opinion, just realize that the host/judge may tell you otherwise, in which case your deck may not be legal.

Yeah, but as YMT pointed out, they still have to be tournament legal.  And even though I may not care either, if you have to ask if it's offensive to someone, it probably is ;)

Also, the backs of all cards (if not in sleeves) or the backs of all sleeves must be indistinguishable from each other.  Otherwise, its not legal.

I'm not saying anything against that, I'm just giving an opinion there.

Also, yep 100% you have to have nothing on the card backs/sleeves that makes it that you can tell them apart, and using Mai's aroma trick (from Yugioh) is illegal in both games. (I'd love to see someone try that though... Lol)
