If I have Covenant with Adam active as an artifact and I start a taunt battle, would my opponent's hero(s) be decreased by 0/3?

Unless I'm reading this too literally, I believe characters would be referencing evil characters and not heroes.

According to the REG:
Quote
A block is the attempt to stop a rescue attempt or battle challenge. Only Evil Characters may block.
An Evil Character blocks if ALL of the following are true:
•The character enters battle under the control of the defending player
•The battle was begun by a Hero

So, no. A hero entering battle on a taunt is not considered blocking.
ANB is good. Change my mind.

If the heroes in the taunt battle are not blocking, then what are they doing?

I feel like the REG is outdated in this area because it was written before taunt was introduced to the game

I agree. If the hero isn't "blocking" what are they doing then?
Also, I believe there were a few early taunts (i.e. Goliath) that have been around for a while, so I think this would've have been in the minds of the REG editors, although it's difficult to understand the mechanics of how each identifier and special ability will interact, hence the intrigue of this game.

The Heroes are "defending", although we've yet to use that term on a card.

The player that initiated the battle is attacking (and usually rescuing, occasionally taunting), their opponent is defending (and usually blocking).

In this instance, we used "blocking" because "Evil Characters in battle" either didn't fit or looked too compressed.

I think it'd be helpful if whatever term is chosen to define what Heroes are doing in a taunt battle would be added to the REG.

I'm thinking "oppose" is probably a good term as its already used within the REG entry for Taunt.

"Defend" is in the REG.

"Opposed" is also in the REG, but it's really more of a state of being than an event (a block is an event, blocking is a state of being), and refers to the character having a character opposite them.

(a block is an event, blocking is a state of being)
I see this as confusing and a problem that needs to be fixed.
