Ishbib's Sword Question

Ishbibenob's Sword (black weapon class enhancement) says:

"Negate the last good card played by an opponent this battle."

QUESTION: If I play this card during battle (it is NOT already on my EC prior to entering battle). Will it negate the HERO's special ability? Because the hero is essentially, the "last good card played" by my opponent.

EXAMPLE: My opponent does a rescue attempt with John (I), which says "Negate evil characters." So I block with a black EC with lower numbers, so I have initiative, so then I play Ishbib's Sword...would that negate John's ability, which says: negate evil characters?

The main point to this question is -- does the HERO himself count as the "last good card played...this battle?

Thank you,

Emonier

Yes Ishbib's sword would negate John's "negate evil characters ability" as John was the last good card played.
