Bernice card questions

Bernice SA:

if blocking , take a male , human EC to your territory and convert it to evil gold. Its owner may withdraw a Hero instead.

1.  Can you "take" a male Human EC from your own territory and convert it to evil gold?

 Example:

If player A's 8/8 hero is in battle and then Player B's Bernice enters battle and takes a male Human EC from Player A's territory and converts it.

2. Can player A choose to instead it  by withdraw (ability has not completed yet) and get SI (because of last character being removed from battle by an opponent's card by the withdraw ability) and be able to play an ITB or negate an evil card good enhancement?

1. No. Per Take in the REG:

Quote
Default Conditions
● Targets must be in play.
Cards may only be taken from another player.
● Permanent control of cards taken transfers to the holder.

Just one more thing...

If you choose to withdraw a lone hero to "Instead" Bernice, it creates Special Initiative to play a card that Interrupts or Negates Bernice.

I used this trick in a ROOT game a few years ago.  I attacked with a 2 hero band (one Purple, one Teal) and my opponent blocked with Archelaus.  He discarded my Purple Hero, and my only good enhancement was Counsel of Abigail.  So I chose to withdraw both of my heroes to grant myself Special Initiative, and then played Counsel of Abigail to underdeck Archelaus and win the battle.

What if I am in multiplayer with player's A and B. Player A attacks and my Bernice takes Player B's evil character. Can player B withdraw player A's hero?

I am thinking yes because there is precedent for withdrawing a character that is not your own, for example, Strife.

You chose correctly! 8)

Bernice was purposefully designed for interesting multi-player politics. She was the wife of a politician after all.
