Associate Proofreader II - apply within

In Jeopardy fashion I'll provide the answers to the questions that will likely follow: no, I'm not coming out of retirement, and yes, I still read threads on the boards.  (Look, people trying to quit smoking still chew nicotine gum. ;) )

Why do we still not have a proofreader who takes part in the card-making process?  Seriously, I believe there are enough anal-retentive people in the Redemption Community who would gladly volunteer their services.  After 15 years I find it disconcerting that:

     A) We still get cards with errors (e.g. Samuel misspelled), and

     2) Special abilities are being cleverly written to account for some past errors.

Give someone the job of specifically doing the proofreading - someone who does NOT take part in the design, development, or playtesting of cards.

No, I'm not applying.  There are plenty of qualified candidates.

Besides, the grass is greener on this side of retirement.  :)

I've always been a stickler for spelling, and it bugs me when things are misspelled....

Philetus was misprinted as 11/4 instead of 5/6.
Aparently Gabe's SA isn't what it's supposed to be as well.
Eli the preist in RoA was supposed to be teal.

I agree with OP.

Samuel is spelled correctly. It's a printer error - it is the printer that needs a proof reader, not Cactus.

That is the text description. The printer only recognizes an image, not the text on the image. It is Cactus who misspelled Sammuel.

I don't acknowledge Freudian innuendo terms, but I would gladly be an overbearing perfectionist to help the game. Just send me a PM with the appropriate 10-page application. My references include many Language Arts teachers.

But you're a math teach.....

And I still haven't found where I can view all the Disciples cards, because I'm interested in finding out where I can get this Goliath Promo. It would make a VERY welcome addition to my Philly Cheesesteak defense.

I do my best to make sure these things don't happen, but there's nothing I can do from the time the document leaves our hands to the time it goes to the printer.  I don't get to see the proofs.

There are a lot of things that the elders never see.  Rob lays out the cards, chooses the borders, types the numbers into the icon box, types or copy/pastes the game text onto the cards.  He sometimes chooses free art to replace what we suggest from GoodSalt, etc.  He trims references for space if we suggest a passage that is too long.

None of us get to see the proof sheets.

The only proof sheet I ever saw was for Angel Wars, and we did catch a few things on that.  For example, Blast of Fire had been given a dragon icon instead of a skull.

I didn't catch the different special abilities on the Shadow evil character cards.  Both were supposed to have the longer ability, but the shorter ability (from a previous version of the list) was left on the other copy of Shadow which is 5 rows down and 5 columns over from the correct one.

Sometimes the printer IS the source of the problem - or at least somewhere in the trasfer process there is a problem.  For example, on my proof sheet, Invisible Beings has the entire special ability.  Somehow the last 4.2 words of the ability were left off.  Also, on my proof sheet, there is an Esther reference on Threatened Lives.  On the actual card, the book is not there.  I have a feeling that the transfer process might have increased the size of the fonts on those cards by a very small amount, and that bumped some of the text out of the visible area of the text box.  I don't think Rob or Doug can be blamed for that.

Mike B. gets sent the images of the cards so that he can put them in the REG, but by that time it is too late to make any changes.

Does this mean I don't get to be an overbearing perfectionist? I was really looking forward to it.

I wondered about Philetus. Fortunately, that's a misprint I can live with. Also, the misprinting made Gabe MUCH better too. All in all, I'm glad Rob doesn't let anyone help with proofreading, otherwise my Prophets/Heretics deck would be a lot weaker.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!
