Title: Ashpenaz Question

Ashpenaz has the ability to convert a captured hero in your territory into a crimson evil character and it allows you to control it. If I had a captured hero in a Raider's Camp, could I convert that, or are the cards in that site protected from effect until my opponent's hero makes a successful rescue attempt?

Cards in Raider's Camp are not protected.
