Title: Asahel and Grapes
Post by: Neil Da BOMB J on September 14, 2011, 05:39:00 PM
When you play grapes with Asahel in battle is he shuffled?
I know that they were thinking about changing the ruling on this.  Have they?
Thanks,
Neil

There really isn't a clear concensus, but I think for the time being he won't be shuffled. Not sure though. I asked about this and there was no official ruling.

Currently he is not shuffled. This ruling is likely to change soon.

Bryon gave the official ruling last year that Asahel is shuffled. That's how it was ruled at Nationals. That has not changed.

Does the battle continue or he 'return' to territory?

Asahel is shuffled, just like every other character that wasn't discarded by Grapes. Shuffle =/= Return

Alright, that makes a LOT more sense.  I had to read that a few times just because I didn't believe what I was reading.

In one of my games at Nats, a player used the Asahel+Grapes combo, and it was ruled that Asahel was NOT shuffled and won the RA (barring the use of UN, Madness, GoH, or Site Guard to add someone else to block, or a dom like CM).

The current definitions in the new REG also support the ruling that the judge at Nats made.

Both of those things are more current and therefore supercede Bryon's previous ruling (which I'd still like a link to as I asked for in a previous thread).  This will continue to be a debated issue until the announcement is made regarding the new definitions of shuffle and return.

Who was that judge? I know that Kevin Shride ruled the opposite of what you're saying at Nationals.

FTR the old REG said the same thing. The "return" document that was published was an unfinished draft and is not accurate. You and I both know this Mark, you're part of the same discussion I am.

Who was that judge?
John M. was the judge, and it makes sense considering that he's from the North East part of the country and Alex_O has already stated on another thread that they've been ruling it that way all last year up in that region.

I am confused!!!
OK, I'm tired of this continuing confusion.  Everyone knows at this point that Asahel+Grapes is not going to work soon.  I'm going to go ahead and make it official at this point.  Gabe is ruling it that way in this thread.  And at this point I am going to confirm that as the new ruling.  The REG will be amended to reflect this later, but as of today Asahel+Grapes WILL SHUFFLE Asahel.  I'll also go announce it in the official new rulings thread.

How about we just get what the ruling is supposed to be and fix the REG instead of going back and forth about whose ruling is older than what?

It's never actually been ruled on when I have seen the play Prof. I just remember the thread on here saying that he was not shuffled and I have been playing it that way through Nats. I even built an Asahel Abuse deck.
