Title: Arrogance
Post by: Jmbeers on August 22, 2011, 09:16:11 PM
Would Arrogance allow me to...

1: play enhancements after playing a battle winner?

2: because a player must have initiative to play an interrupt or negate dose that mean Arrogance and any card played after that cannot be negated?

2B: if question 2 is true then what about the last enhancement I play when I allow initiative to pass back to my opponent?

3: If my opponent Would play angle of the lord would the ability on arrogance allow me to continue playing or dose that end the battle?

Thanks:

Arrogance Sa; "Holder may play as many evil enhancements as desired, Initiative passes when holder is done playing enhancements."

I think you must have initiative to save yourself so you can wreck there deck and territory all you want but once you harm a hero in battle initiative passes.

1) Yes. Arrogance works like a mass band but with enhancements. You play as many as you want and then activate them in the order you want. As long as an EC of matching brigade is in battle you're golden. This has been ruled many time.

2) They're not technically CBN. A card like Benaiah Snatches a Spear could negate them, because they target "an" enhancement, rather than the last enhancement

2b) The last card you play and any cards causing your opponent to lose by removal can be interrupted by an Interrupt the Battle ability. The last card could also be targeted by a Negate Last ability. (The secret is to end with an End The Battle ability, then they can't do anything! ;D)

3) No. Cards have to complete in order, once Arrogance is played, it and everything after it must complete before your opponent or you can play any dominants.

Thanks

That is going in for sure then, playing that on the new Babylonian Solders with Great Image will be nasty.

I think it was ruled that Arrogance means "You may play X enhancements (X may be any number of enhancements you have)" or something like that.  So you couldn't play enhancements you drew during your period of Arrogance.

What if I interrupted Arrogance with Dream, D3, could I play an enhancement I drew?

Play abilities are CBI so no.

But I'm playing off of Dream, not Arrogance.

But I'm playing off of Dream, not Arrogance.

You'd play it after Arrogance completes I would think.
I.E. the draw activates as an instant ability but the play next gets qued since you have a pending play next already.

Play and Draw are both instant abilities.  Either they both go off, or neither.

I thought it was said before that you could play what you drew off of dream because dreams ability lets you play and enhancement. when you play arrogance you have to choose  the order the enhancements activate. Since part of dreams ability is to draw and play I don't see why you can't play a card you've drawn off of dream. in fact you would have to complete dreams ability before another enhancement can activate from arrogance.

This ruling makes no sense.

There's too many CBN/CBI battlewinners for me to do that.

Arrogance is like Babel for enhancements.  You choose a certain number of enhancements to play put them all into play at once, they then take effect in the order you choose.  Once the last enhancement completes you determine initiative normally (giving a character the opportunity to negate their own removal from battle if that is applicable).

I asked Mike to include a Play As for Arrogance in the REG update that is coming out this weekend.  If things go smoothly come Monday Arrogance will have the play as, "Holder may play X enhancements."  With the new identifier: "X = any number that holder chooses"

So if initiative if decided normally just make drem your last enhancement you activate so it would allow you to play one more, correct?

Well, I just checked the REG and it does not say that:

Special Ability: Holder may play as many evil enhancements as desired. Initiative passes when holder is done playing enhancements. • Play As: Holder may play as many evil enhancements as desired [play an enhancement]. Initiative passes when holder is done playing enhancements. • Identifiers: OT, Depicts a Weapon, Connected with David

I want some clarification on this.

Can I play AotL or Grapes after my opponent plays Arrogance and before he gets the chance to play any of his other enhancements?

Thanks,
Kirk

No, neither dominant interrupts Arrogance.

That hasn't worked since the Priests set came out. Prior to Priests it used to be a legal play.
