The effect of Interrupt on the meaning of "Next"

Please clarify what happens in this situation:

1. I make a rescue attempt.
2. My opponent presents a blocker.
3. I play an enhancement with an immediate effect (say, Authority of Christ).
4. My opponent plays Lurking [Interrupt the battle and band one of your Evil Characters into battle from hand, territory, "The Darkness", or from face down on a site.]
5. My opponent uses the ability of Lurking to band in Egyptian Charioteers [Prevent the special ability of the next enhancement opponent plays this battle.]
6. The special ability of Egyptian Charioteers activates. What is the "next enhancement" I play this battle? Is it the enhancement I already played in step 3 (Authority of Christ)? Or is it the next enhancement I play (if any) after Egyptian Charioteers enters the battle?

In other words, does Interrupt the battle turn back the clock in terms of what is meant by the word "next"?

I asked this question after our last tournament, and the answer initially was that it would be the next enhancement you play after Egyptian Charioteers enters battle. However, I asked some follow-up questions, that seem to have muddied the waters on if that really is the case, so there doesn't appear to be consensus yet.  :P

So based on that thread it seems to me that "next enhancement" means next in real-world time, so Egyptian Charioteers does not negate an enhancement that has already been physically played. Is that how you would rule it now?

That is how I would rule this matter.

I do not believe there was any muddy water about the "play next" scenario. Egyptian Charioteers will prevent the next enhancement played (hit the table), not necessarily the next ability to (re)activate.

The muddy water came later with ItB for cost/benefit abilities, and frankly I was the mud. No one has (or will) ruled it any other way, so I was wrong (even though I still do not know why).

While it's true that an enhancement is played when it's SA activates, in this case the SA is reactivating. It was played when it activated the first time.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!
