Another Question, a big one if ya ask me

Hey all,

Here is my problem.  Priests of Christ is Nuetral, seeker of the Lost is a woman, and Faithful Servant is a man...I'm sorry, but this does not seem right to me...

This is the Faithful Servant Promo...now I know that it was said it was bad art that was used, but my point is, the art was still used.  Look at a picture of a queens crown...

Straight up, that is the crown of a queen.  It's a picture of a woman.  To even suggest that this card should be straight up male is badly authorized.  Before I go on, I want to move to the other cards...

Of course, Seeker of the Lost.  She is considered a woman, and well, because it is a woman put on the card.  So we have that, but one last card I want to look at...

So this card is Nuetral because, well, we are ALL priests of Christ when we decide to give up our lives and follow Him.  So here is where my arguement comes in...

Why not make ALL of them nuetral?  We are all supposed to be Priests of Christ, Seekers of the Lost, and Faithful Servants.  That is something we can all agree on and with these cards being promos as harder to get and supposedly more valuable, why not make all of them Nuetral.  I guess, what I am saying is to ignore the art on the card and go to the Scripture because these card names are general, not gender specific.  I know some people are going to not like this to be brought up again, but I think it needs to be.

In Christ,
Bryan

1. Queen's crown?  :P
2. "Seeker" and "Servant" are singular words, while "Priests" is plural.
3. I don't disagree with the idea.

I agree with the idea that these should all be threated as gender nuetral.  The title used for any of these cards can be applied to all believers, male or female, not to a specific person or gender.

Thinking big picture, if we did that, how many other cards would need to be made gender neutral if these were set as a precedent?

Personally, I am against change "just cuz."

I'm against change "just cuz" as well, but this isn't just cause.  What if we did change the cards to neutral if they are really nuetral?  Is that such a bad thing that they represent the people they are supposed to represent?

FS is probably male because the original version (you know, the useless green 4/4 version in the blue packs?) had a male in the picture.

so what if it had a male of the art.  The card symbolizes more than that pic.

Hey,

The gender of these cards isn't going to change.  Gender is determined based on Biblical reference, not based on artwork.

Faithful Servant is referring to a male character in a parable.  Yes we are all called to be "faithful servants" but that's not what the card is referring to.  It is referring to a specific servant that was faithful and was male.

Priests of Christ is referring to a group of Christians.  It's not a group of male Christians and it's not a group of female Christians, it's just a group of Christians.  There is no biblical evidence to support the group being one gender or the other, so it is treated as gender not specified.

Seeker of the Lost...is special.  But it has been brought up before and TPTB made it clear that they do not intend to change the gender of Seeker of the Lost.

If it's referring to a specific character, shouldn't it be unique?

Hey now, I used that card (several copies actually) in a previous T2 deck.  :)

Hey,

If it's referring to a specific character, shouldn't it be unique?

We had to go there didn't we.  You're right, Faithful Servant is unique and Strong Demon, Foul Spirit, Injuring Demon, and Seizing Spirit are all the same unique evil character.

[/sarcasm]

Gender is determined primarily by scripture reference.  Unique/Generic is determined primarily by card title.  The card title Faithful Servant is describing an attribute more than an individual which makes the card generic.

...and not only that but all three of these cards happen to be in my current T1 deck and I like they way they work as male, female and neutral respectively.  So no, I am not changing them.  You people should know by now that I don't change rulings to hurt my decks.  I change rulings to hurt Justin, Tim or Gil's decks.

Rob "the tyrant" Anderson

P.S.  Remember that Soldier of God and Seeker of the Lost were requested and funded by The Salvation Army to promote their ministry.  Soldier of God is inspired by William Booth - founder of The Salvation Army.  Following Soldier of God, The Salvation Army wanted their second card inspired by Mrs. Booth who worked along side her husband.  This card became Seeker of the Lost.  This is one reason the card is ruled female.

Top Reasons to Keep the Status Quo:

1.
You people should know by now that I don't change rulings to hurt my decks.  I change rulings to hurt Justin, Tim or Gil's decks.

2.

I must say Rob's first explanation was more then enough for me to comletely agree.  Having the cards the way they are is alot easier to explain to new players instead of taking a half an hour to talk about the decisions made on the boards and teh reason behind it.
I never want to grow up, hmmm maybe thats why I'm a youth pastor.
