Can I search for Son of God, all the while announcing my intention to play it and New Jerusalem together, and then do so before my opponent can play Mayhem to make me shuffle the cards back into my deck?

(I'm sure this has been asked many times before, so I apologize for not remembering the answer.)

Thanks for your help!

Thanks.  Does it work the same for any searched for card that I want to play immediately, if I announce my intentions?  (i.e. "I'm playing False Peace to search my deck for Deadly Snare, which I will then use to capture your hero.")

No.  Playing False Peace to search for an enhancement is followed by an initiative check, in which time the opponent can play Mayhem.

If you want to be able to play the searched card right way, search for a dominant.  Or use a search card that lets you add the card to battle.

what if you are being defeated by the numbers, wouldn't your opponent never get any initiative?
False peach must go through before anyone can play a dominant or another enhancement right?

No. After every card is played there should be an "initiative check," which is the opportunity for your opponent to play a dominant that they may have not chosen to use yet during previous "initiative checks."

I know that you would like to have a more literally defined intiative-passing method, but for now all Redemption has are courtesy checks (which are enforced by hosts when a complaint is made). After every card that is played in battle completes, an initiative check should be made.

Out of curiosity, what does MTG do for initiative pass/check (if it uses such a mechanic)?

In MTG the closest thing is Priority, and I'm not entirely sure on exactly how it works, but basically the turn player has priority until they play a card (then opponents have a chance to respond) or they are moving to another phase.  And Priority always passes clockwise around the table.
If you are reading this signature, thank a physicist.

i've always preferred yugioh's chain method. so simple and effective.

You guys will have to explain these terms, since I have never played either game.

Kingdom Hearts simply does alternating intiative, even if you are losing. This would not really work in Redemption.

The chain and the stack basically work in a "last to first" way. Without getting into the technical aspects like spell speeds, here's the basics: If I activate a card or ability, any player can activate another card/ability in response to it and then a stack/chain is formed. Any other cards/abilities get added one after the other to the stack/chain. Once all players are done playing cards/abilities, the stack/chain enters resolution and the cards take effect in the reverse order that they were played, so the last card/ability activated would be the first to resolve, the second to last would be second, etc. etc.

Hope this helps explain it.

In Redemption terms, any spell cast in MTG is considered to be an interrupt.

You guys will have to explain these terms, since I have never played either game.

Being a certified level 2 judge, It is my intention to explain some of these terms:

In magic, if it is your turn, you always get "priority" (meaning you decide when to pass the phase and when to give your opponent the eventual chance to respond).
The only way a phase is completed is when both players agree they don't want to play an additional card or activate an ability in that phase.

When an ability or card is played it goes into a separate zone known as the stack.
While on the stack the ability or card waits to resolve (take effect).
Whoever played the card or activated an ability has the option to either pass "initiative" aka "priority" or activate another ability/play an additional card and eventually they will pass initiative/priority to give their opponent a chance to respond.

Example of the stack:

The stack is similar to playing enhancements in battle (a coincidence?),
I rescue with John.....
You block with sadducee

Sadducee plays Wrath of Satan (Wrath of Satan goes on the bottom of the stack waiting to resolve/take effect)
John plays a Five Smooth Stones targeting Wrath of Satan (Five Smooth Stones go on top of Wrath of Satan on the stack waiting to resolve/take effect)
Sadducee plays devourer targeting the Five Smooth Stones (Devourer goes top of Wrath of Satan and also on top of Five Smooth Stones waiting to resolve take effect)

Since Devourer was the last card to be played and wasnt negated/countered, it resolves first:
negating/countering Five Smooth Stones
therefore allowing Wrath of Satan to resolve/take effect.

I hope this helps, YMT.
