Angel of the Lord & Enhancements

Hello Gents,

You have probably heard this one a lot but it still gives me trouble.

QUESTION: Suppose I place a hero into battle, the other guy blocks, and he has initiative, so he plays an enhancement. Then, I decide to AotL him, removing his blocker.

the question is -- does the enhancement still work? For example, if it was a capture effect, would my hero still get captured and I would not rescue a soul?

Thanks,

E

You cannot even play Angel until his enhancement and any other abilities triggered by the enhancement finish resolving, so yes the enhancement works.

What if I throw down AotL before he plays his ENH?

Yes, his enhancement still works. You could still play AotL, but your Hero has already been captured so it wouldn't make much sense at that point.

Keep in mind, you don't need regular initiative to use AotL. You can play it before he plays his enhancement if you suspect he has something that will beat you.

EDIT--Instaposted.

if he blocks with an EC and all abilities resolve, and if your opponent is losing by the numbers or isn’t then you can play AotL.

I did not get this - these sentences seem to be contradictory in terms of the question raised the post before! Really this reads confusing. So how is it going with the change of ini and the possibiltiy to play Doms in between?
What happens in the OP describing situation when the blocking player has normal Ini, did not yet play an enhancement and the rescuing player plays AotL? Can the blocking player still play an enhancement which would resolve before the character is discarded or not?

Here’s how it works, René:

Scenario 1:

Hero begins a rescue and hero’s ability resolves. Opponent blocks with an EC and its ability resolves. Both the hero and EC are still in battle. Hero has initiative by the numbers. He plays AotL and discards the EC.

Scenario 2:

The same as the first part of the aforementioned scenario except this time the EC has initiative by the numbers. Before the opponent plays an EE, the rescuer can play AotL to discard the EC. If the rescuer chose not to play AotL, and the blocker plays an EE that discards the hero, then the rescuer cannot play AotL until the hero is discarded because a dominant cannot insert itself between abilities. After the hero is discarded, however, the hero can play AotL to discard the EC; however, he’s not going to win the lost soul because his sole hero in battle has already been discarded.

Watchman:

That was a great summary, and I agree with both scenarios, but here is another wrinkle...

Suppose we were in scenario 2 --

The EC has initiative (by the numbers), and he plays an EE that would remove the hero,  BUT THEN the hero's owner plays an INTERRUPT enhancement (temporarily stopping the ability) and THEN Plays AotL.

Would this stop the EE from happening, and would the rescuer then get a soul?

Thanks

You can't play dominants during other abilities resolving. The battle won't be interrupted by the time you can play a dominant.

An interrupt only temporarily stops the ability. The rest of the ability that interrupts needs to finish before you can play AotL, and the interrupted card gets a chance to kick back in first.

ALL CURRENT ABILITIES MUST FINISH BEFORE A DOMINANT MAY BE PLAYED.

If, for example, you play a card that says "interrupt the battle, draw three, play next" (let's say Reach of Desperation), the capture stops, you draw three, and get a chance to play another enhancement. You CAN'T play Angel here - the ability of Reach hasn't finished yet - but you still have a chance to play an enhancement. If you do, and it removes all ECs that the capture enhancement could be played off of from battle, then the capture fizzles since it's an enhancement without a character. If you don't have another enhancement to play, then Reach finishes and the capture is done being interrupted. It still needs to complete before you can Angel.
ANB is good. Change my mind.

Kevin and Bobbert are correct, and just as a note there are no cards that just interrupt--they are always "interrupt + do something else".

Although if you play Counsel of Abigail (RoA) on a NT hero all it will do is Interrupt the Battle.
If you are reading this signature, thank a physicist.

This is true, but then it resolves instantaneously and the battle is no longer interrupted.  :P
