I believe the 'correct' ruling is that you get a one soul bonus and a restart, however I've never actually seen that happen as most people allow the player to pull out the discard pile, and as long as it wasn't super late game, its fairly easy to remember what was in it.

That is why when i play ANB I ALWAYS make sure they do not touch their discard pile.

The printers made a mistake. The original playtest special ability was,

ALL players on "the next table"shuffle ALL cards in the field of play, set-aside areas and their hands back into their draw pile. Only cards in Land of Redemption and discard piles remain. ALL players on "both tables" Draw 8 new cards. "Continue as if nothing happened."

I agree with RDT. Anytime an individual player messes up on what a card does (and his opponent does nothing to stop him at the time), we should ban the card.  From my experience that leaves the original Buckler and the remaining no SA cards in the game. This is a bright-line standard; if it has writing on the picture it should be banned.

Seriously, if no one recognized it when it happened, then it was as much your issue as your opponent's. I would rule your opponent attempt as best you can to pull the discarded cards out of the draw pile and you both play on. If a player has absolutely no responsibility to ensure his opponent played correctly, what is stopping a player from using ANB solely to get a 1-0 ls advantage and a new game.

People who have played me know my rigamarole when I play an ANB.  After playing the card, I go through and explicitly tell any opponent(s) what I am doing and what needs to be done. Remove ANB From the game. Set your discard piles aside. ... After that, my first check before I draw eight is to make sure everyone has a discard pile if they started with one. Not catching this immediately is the fault of the person playing the ANB in my book, and I don't see why they should be given an unearned lost soul because of it.
