Does this count as a true capture card? So, could I play this on Melchizidek or a Z-Temple priest with Z-Temple out?

I do not think it is counted as a capture, much the same as War Officer, Recruiting Officer, or Servant Girl would not count as a capture. This card is a side-battle card with an "instead" for what happens after Battle Resolution.

Hey,

It does have a capture ability.  A character that is protected from capture could be forced to fight in the side battle, but if they lost the side battle they would be discarded instead of being captured.

With Blue Tassels up, War Officer does not go to the opponent's Land of Bondage.

A side battle from JBS with Melchizedek can occur but if Melky loses, he is not captured.

Correct. The "instead" capture cannot happen, so the default losing action (discard) occurs.

They both die, Or are captured, or go under draw pile or w/e the side battle card does.
