Title: Achan
Post by: Professoralstad on January 19, 2010, 03:21:32 PM
If Achan's ability is activated more than once, is the decrease cumulative? For example, if I blocked with him on two separate occasions and he was still in play, would Joshua's strength decrease by 10 while Achan remained in play?

Achan
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Pale Green • Ability: 5 / 6 • Class: None • Special Ability: Joshua's strength (*/) is reduced by 5 while Achan remains in play. • Identifiers: OT Male Human, Fought Earthly Battle • Verse: Joshua 7:18 • Availability: Patriarchs booster packs (Common)

I think so. I mean, all the other cards I can think of that say "while this card remains in play" (Esther, Death and Hades, etc.) have a non-duplicatable* effect.

*awesome word

I might've gone for induplicable myself, but that's just nitpicking on my part.

For me, I would read the ability as saying that Joshua can only be reduced by 5 while Achan remains in play. Achan is still in play when he enters battle a second time, so the previous effect remains. I would think that Achan would have to say "reduce by 5 per turn" for the effect to be cumulative.

I asked this question when Judge's Seat first came out.  I never got an official answer.   :-\

Is Joshua really causing you enough problems that this ruling matters?  :D

Or maybe he wants a great character for Judge's Seat that can wipe out essentially any EC?

Hey,

Judas Iscariot's ability can accumulate over multiple uses.  I see no reason why Achan's ability wouldn't do the same.

Judas targets an opponent's cards and can only accumulate if there is more than one opponent. Achan targets Joshua and can only accumulate if there is more than one Joshua.

Judas targets an opponent's cards...
Judas has a protect ability; he doesn't target anything.

He targets various opponents.

Hey,

Actually Judas targets himself.

Actually Judas targets himself.

So then he doesn't need to accumulate opponents. If he targets himself, then any opponent that tries to discard him will fail.

He targets himself as being protected from his current opponent.
