Which phase are the eight cards drawn?

I used to think there were no stupid questions.

I am fine with the above proposed errata.
The playtesters are in agreement.

It's official.  :)

I think that makes this the complete ability:
"If making a rescue attempt, remove this card from the game to shuffle all cards in play, set aside areas, and hands into decks.  All players draw 8.  Begin a new turn."

I would think it would be the same as when you draw 8 cards at the beginning of a game: the "draw 8 cards because you have to have 8" phase.

Something tells me you're cooking up another sweet combo :P

+1.  The player that goes first draws 3 like normal (8+3=11 cards to start "new game")

I don't think any cards specifically protect anything from shuffle (except the Thorns LS for LS's).

Protection of Angels protects from evil cards, which would include shuffling if they did such, but I don't know if there's any other cards with that type of effect.

yes, you can protect syrians from shuffle (anb) with their protect fort. you can also have the color guard lost soul in a green site to protect all of your evil characters from being shuffled into deck by anb.

You could protect a temple from shuffle with pretection of Jerusalem but I dont know that it would follow that the Artifact is protected (and you cant put gifts in a temple that I know of anyway)

TO answer your question, the cards would be drawn during the draw phase of the new beginning turn.  Each player draws 8 cards and then a new turn would start with you drawing three more cards.  The drawing 8 really isnt a phase at all, it is simply a game rule that you begin each game with drawing 8 cards.

ANB doesn't really begin a new game, though, it simply resets the playing field so that there is a similar experience to beginning a new game.

The draw 8 is part of a special ability that takes place in the battle phase, THEN the new turn begins.  (Thus why you get to draw three cards on later turns -- it's no longer the first turn of the game.  Unless you're playing ANB on the first turn of the game, eh, RDT?)  Prior to the new turn beginning, I don't see any reason it is not still be the battle phase of the previous turn, so it seems like the cards are being drawn in that battle phase.

one, it has been ruled the new turn starts when the new hands are drawn, therefore gifts will not work. two, protection of jerusalem only protects forts from discard. and three, there is a way to get any artifact onto a temple (ithamar).

A card that has a restriction about what kind of cards it holds can only have that changed by another card that SPECIFICALLY allows that change.  For instance, some cards give you the ability to play a card regardless of brigade.  Nothing on Ithamar indicates that you can override the restriction on Tabernacle.  If Ithamar stated something like "...any artifact, regardless of being a temple artifact..." or words to that effect, then you would be correct.  In the absence of those words, the Tabernacle can ONLY hold tabernacle artifacts.

i believe tim was for the affirmative of letting the tabernacle hold any artifact via ithamar in that same thread.

well if it is only kevin vs tim, then I side with Kevin for the moment.  I dont know what that thread was all about though because I must have missed it.

true, PoJ does not protect against shuffle. my bad.  I was mixing Protection of Angels with PoJ.

and as for when the new turn begins, I dont see how it can.  The card specificly states in the play as  that the very last item is...Player may begin a new turn.  The Card states that all players draw 8 cards before it states that the new turn is to begin so I agree that it must be in the battle phase.

Even better...

If Chariots is active after drawing eight you should be allowed to resurrect all of your heroes from the discard pile and shuffle them into your deck.

This is the answer I deduced.  But I would like the PTB to confirm it.  No waffling either.  It doesn't matter to me if they decide that it's the draw phase of the next turn.  But it has to be one or the other.  There's no such thing as a "limbo" time.  Once a game starts you are always in a phase of the game.

Also, no more errata please.

So...battle phase of current turn or draw phase of new turn?

Hey,

Gifts does not work with the "all players draw 8" on A New Beginning.  Chariot of Fire does return heroes to your draw pile before "all players draw 8."  Those both have been official rulings for a while.

I've always personally considered the draw 8 to be during the discard phase of the ending turn.

Tschow,
