Targetting from Side Battle - always possible?

Hi altogether,

just to get it clear for myself:

According to REG: "Cards in a suspended battle can be targeted and can be affected during the side battle." and when using War in Heaven in side battle I'd assume I cannot target a card in main battle (and maybe revert the Side Battle) with it since it is currently not opposing - am I right?

War in Heaven: "Negate and discard an opposing card in battle (except a human)."

But if I can use a less specific negate I would be able to target out of side battel e.g. an enhancement in main battle like Sword of the Lord which caused the Side Battle and hence revert the entire Side Battle? This would be my understanding of the REG. Is this correct?

Sword of the Lord: "Holder may take any two Evil Characters in play and cause them to fight each other. The loser is discarded."

Thanx in advance!

Bye

You are correct on both counts.

Even if War in Heaven didn't use "opposing", it still couldn't target a card in the main battle because "in battle" actually means "in the current battle". It would need to say "in the Field of Battle" to target a card in the main battle.

Ask not what the side battle can do for you... but what you can do for the side battle.

That’s not confusing at all. Gotta love Redemption rules.

If a card targets cards "in battle", it defaults to "this battle".  Most abilities have defaults that aren't printed on the card - such as if a card doesn't say where it targets, the default is always "in play".

That's fine but this should be the rule for any battle that's taking place, active or suspended.  When "field of battle" means the suspended and active battle who is really going to know that?  For simplicity sake, when something is happening in the side battle it should only be in that battle or affect that battle and the suspended battle.

If a card said "Discard a Hero in the field of battle" but then couldn't target a Hero in the main battle when played in a site battle, then that would also be confusing.

Most newer cards only refer to "battle," it is primarily older cards that use the term "field of battle," so it is necessary to have those two terms defined separately, which they are in the REG.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

A new card which says field of battle is The Flood

Super fun to play in a side battle for a block and rescue next turn! ;)

That's why I said "most" and yes, that was intentional with The Flood  ;)

Saying "Field of Battle" instead of "Battle" is comparable to saying "Territories" instead of "Territory".  The Field of Battle contains all battles that are active.

I think it's confusing regardless of the terminology.  Maybe sticking with wording like "this battle" will make it clearer which battle it's specifically referring to instead of just "battle."
