A couple rule questions

I don't really have many people around me that know how to play the game. I was wondering if someone could help me out. I've been playing for a while, but there are a couple of things I'm not sure of

Q 1: If an opposing Evil Character is immune to my Hero, what exactly do I do? What happens?

Q 2: If my EC gets discarded by say AotL, what happens with the enhancements played on it? Do their number abilities still count?

Q 3: Say I want to activate an artifact, do I have to discard the previous artifact or can I flip it under the pile and use it again later?

Don't laugh at me. The person who taught me wasn't really sure either. Thanks for any help.

First of all this should be in the ruling questions section.

Q 1: If an opposing Evil Character is immune to my Hero, what exactly do I do? What happens?

Immunity means a couple of things, firstly the immune character isn't defeated by numbers, so even if your numbers are higher than your opponents the evil character is surviving. This means you can't win by numbers and initiative is determined as if the evil character is always surviving (it will only pass as evil winning or stalemate).
Immunity also means that you can't target and/or effect the character with special abilities on cards that the evil character is immune to. Meaning if Red Dragon is immune to human heroes, human heroes can't target or effect Red Dragon.
You can interrupt or negate the immunity, or play something like a dominant.

Q 2: If my EC gets discarded by say AotL, what happens with the enhancements played on it? Do their number abilities still count?

It depends on the situation, if there is a character of a brigade matching the enhancements in battle they transfer to that character, if there isn't then they get discarded.

Q 3: Say I want to activate an artifact, do I have to discard the previous artifact or can I flip it under the pile and use it again later?

No, you simply deactivate (flip it face down and put it in your artifact pile)

If any of my explanations are confusing or long winded (and usually they are) I hope someone else can explain it better.
If you are reading this signature, thank a physicist.

1. You can negate or interrupt the immunity and then kill it

2. If there is another evil character of matching brigade in battle, then yes. Otherwise no.

3. You deactivate the artifact.

Thanks guys. I think that covers those ones. Also, If your only Character is discarded from battle, what are the different ways are there to put another one in battle?

Generally, if there was only one character in battle, you don't get to put another one in. The exception would be Unknown Nation (that's the only one that comes to mind). There are a few cards, like Grapes of Wrath, where your character might be discarded and a new battle might start. Death of Firstborn makes an Evil Character withdraw, and you get to put another one in. Goliath does the same for Heroes. Generally, however, if someone uses AotL on your Evil character or CM on your hero, he's toast.

Glad you came to join us on the boards!

Unknown Nation (Pi)
Type: Curse • Brigade: Gold • Ability: 0 / 6 • Class: None • Special Ability: If opponent’s Hero is in battle, you may discard this card to search draw pile for a human Evil Character and add it to battle. Cannot be interrupted. • Play As: If opponent’s Hero is in battle, when holder chooses, you may discard this card to search deck for a human Evil Character and add to battle. Cannot be interrupted. • Identifiers: OT, Depicts an Idol • Verse: Deuteronomy 28:36

Grapes of Wrath (TP)
Type: Lamb • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Discard an evil card in battle to shuffle all remaining characters in battle into owners’ decks. If the current rescuer doesn't have the most Redeemed Souls, he may begin a new battle. • Errata: Discard an evil card in battle to shuffle [return] all remaining characters in battle into owners’ decks. If no Heroes remain in battle and the current rescuer doesn't have the most Redeemed Souls, he may begin a new battle. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Revelation 19:15

Death of Firstborn (Pa)
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Silver • Ability: 2 / 2 • Class: None • Special Ability: Immunity on all characters is negated. Blocking Evil Character refuses to block. Opponent must present a new blocker or rescue attempt is successful. • Play As: Negate immunity on all characters for the remainder of battle. Return one blocking Evil Character to owner's territory. If this ability causes an Evil Character to leave battle, opponent may add to battle a new blocker. • Identifiers: OT, Based on Prophecy, Plague • Verse: Exodus 12:29

Goliath (P)
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Black • Ability: 10 / 10 • Class: Warrior • Special Ability: Return all Heroes in battle to territory (except giant-slayers). Opponent may present a new Hero. Negate all band, draw, and play abilities. Cannot be negated. • Identifiers: OT Male Giant (Human), Philistia • Verse: I Samuel 17:44
ANB is good. Change my mind.

Quick note on Question 2 - Discarding a Character via a Dominant cannot stop the effect of anything. For example, if you play an Enhancement that Discards an Evil Character and Opponent responds by playing CM, your Enhancement still completes before the Dominant can be activated. Numbers will not affect the battle if all your Characters are discarded by a Special Ability. I decided to add this since I didn't see anyone mentioned it. Welcome to the boards!

They seem pretty lame as fighters maybe we should challenge them to a dance off or a redemption game

Two follow-ups to this:

1) I'm assuming if all your characters are being removed the ONLY enhancements you can play after this point are those which negate or interrupt the removal? (Because, otherwise, you'd have no character left in battle on which to play the enhancement?)

2) I see many people puting up card names, abilities, and even "Play as:" notes. Is there a place these are being copied from? I have the card list, but all the cards I've looked at there don't have any "Play as:" notes on them (which I've often looked for and I just looked at again for Unknown Nation which was listed as having such a note in an earlier reply; no such note in my list). Would this same source contain any changes that have been made to cards since there printing (in Magic: the Gathering, these are called erratas, is the term used the same way here?). For example, I've wondered since Adino's Spear is a weapon class enhancement if Adino had subsequently been made a warrior class hero (since it seems kind of silly that Adino would not be able to weild his own spear).

That is correct, you must interrupt or negate the effect causing the removal.  Referred to as Special Initiative (will be defined with an update to the REG in the future, from what I hear).

Well...the REG used to be in a non-PDF form that also had all card abilities on it.  That was where those were copied from, and they also included Play-As which aren't necessarily the official rule on the card.  The purpose had been to update archaic terms and abilities to their modern counterparts, and it was very useful in almost all cases.  There are Official Erratas for cards, but "Play-As" were not erratas, just updated wording that sometimes changed the actual abilities and had to be disregarded or changed.

That REG is now gone, however, and so you cannot copy the abilities from anywhere ATM.  You can use the excellent resource of redemptionlive.com (but you cannot copy from there, FYI) for searching out cards and their abilities.  There had been some work done in embedding card images and abilities into posts, and it was a great idea but some problems existed, so we can't do that anymore.  Just use redemptionlive.com for now :)

Now, on Adino and his spear, both were printed as Warrior/Weapon class in Kings.  However, neither of those things existed before then, when he was previously printed (in Limited/Unlimited, first sets) and his spear was printed (Warriors, the set before Kings).  Both versions of each card are actually very different, and are played differently.  If you use the Unlimted version of him (not warrior-class), then he has no ability and is not warrior-class.  He cannot hold a weapon.  In the same way, the Warriors version of his spear cannot be treated as a weapon-class enhancement, only as a regular enhancement.  Does that all make sense?  They're really just different cards, and you use the version of the card that is actually in your deck.

Thanks a lot. That is very helpful, on all counts. Does redemptionlive.com have the updated wordings that used to be under "Play as:"? I feel as though a lot of the updated wording is more technical which helps my mathematical mind grasp it a little better. ;)

Actually...it does, I was not aware of that, but just went to check and there they were.  Huh.  Welp, you can see them there :)  Just keep in mind that if it changes the meaning of the ability, it's not 'the rule', but they are great translation for most abilities :D
