Title: A Battle Phase Question
Post by: 3-Liner And Bags Of Chips on November 10, 2010, 10:01:03 AM
When you start your battle phase, I have been told that sites in battle have no special ability, correct? If so, can sites be added to battle and then the hero?

Example: I want to do a BC/RA with Gabriel to discard an enhancement but I can't because i have Nazarath out. Could I bring Nazarath into battle even though I have access and it's ability be negated basically and then go in with Gabriel?

Yes. Single color sites have no abilities in battle. So you can bring Naz into battle with you and use a search ability.

Even if he already has access?

Yep. You can add access sites to any battle if you want, even if you don't need them.

Actually, I think this specific example is flawed. You cannot place Naz in battle then attack. What you could do is attack with someone else, place Naz in battle, then play something to band to Gabe.

I was asking since site access could be entered into battle during the battle phase could you put the site in first and then do the hero who has a search ability?

No.

No.

Why not?

You can't put the site in first (battle doesn't begin until a hero (or an EC with Taunt) enters the field of battle), but like ProfAlstad said you can bring it in with the hero and it would accomplish the same thing.

No you can't. The very first thing that happens in a battle is the character goes in. His SA activates before you can bring in Sites and by then it's too late.

But if the hero has to go in first, ex. Gabe and then the site, his ability would still be protected though so it wouldn't work.

WC enhancements enter battle with the hero, sites (with their "anytime during battle" trigger) should be able to as well.

There's a rule about weapons entering battle with Heroes, and even then, they activate after the Hero. You can't have a battle phase developing without a Hero in battle, and there is no simultaneous except NJ. If what you're saying is true, I could use GoH "at the same time" as my opponent using Wash Basin because it says "at any time."

Last I was told, sites can enter battle anytime, including with the first hero. I assumed it was because they have a "anytime during battle" trigger, but your GoH example disproves that assumption.

Ahh i understand because the battle is triggered by the hero entering battle first so the site wouldn't even be able to enter unless the hero was in battle.

Pol may be correct; I was operating under the assumption that Sites come into battle with the Hero (as they often are represented as doing when you attack with a Hero and push the Site in with him). However, I can't find any strong evidence one way or the other. The question has never really mattered before Sites like Nazareth were made, and the new standard rule (single color work outside of battle only, multi inside of battle only) was adopted.

I will bring it up before the Elders, and hopefully we can resolve it. I had assumed that pushing Naz into battle with you was a good way for you to get around your own Nazareth.

Well can this get stickied or something until it gets resolved?

The elders discussed this, and the consensus was that sites can enter battle simultaneously with the hero, and therefore, the site's SA would be inactive before the hero's SA activated.

Wow, so simultaneous stuff is really going to be all over the place rather than limited to NJ, eh?

Even still, it doesn't work. SoG and NJ rescue a soul simultaneously, so you can rescue two Shufflers at once. Even now that somehow you can simultaneously add two cards to battle, the site would have to deactivate before the Hero entered battle.

Can we get some technical explanation on this one?

One of the other elders will probably be able to explain this better than I can actually.  But one point that they made which I agreed with was that if sites didn't enter at the same time as heroes, then all "rescue attempts" against LSs that were in sites would initially start off as "battle challenges" before the site was brought in, and that would lead to confusion with certain cards.
