Title: 5 Player Multi Game Scoring

We had a dreaded 5 player multi category yesterday at a tournament. 2 scoring questions arose I was unable to address based on the tournament guide or the forums so I had to rely on my memory (which is often faulty).

1. How many points are awarded per 5 player game? IIRC, 1 point is awarded per person in a multi player game so 5 points are awarded - 3 for 1st and 2 for 2nd.

2. How are ties handled? IIRC, ties in multiplayer games give at least some points to every player at table. So in a game where there was tie for 1st and 3rd and a 5th place player - who gets what amount of points?

I believe those tied for first share the 1st place points and the other three share the other 2. So I gave the following point totals.

1st (tied): 1.5 pts each
3rd (tie): .7 pts each
5th: .6 pts

Not sure if I did it right.

1. Yes, 1 point per player, so 5 points.

2. It depends on whether the players tied for first had enough LSs to win, or if the game timed out.  If the top 2 would have won, the 5 points are split between them.  If the game timed out, the top 2 get 1.5 points each and the other 3 split the remaining 2 evenly, so 2/3 for each.

In the event of any timeout, all players that don't have the top score receive the same amount of points.  Unless I misread something on the chart.

Thank you sir - 1st place players were tied at 4 at timeout. I didn't give quite the appropriate point split to 3rd through 5th. Good to know for next time!

I see now that I didn't include the breakdown for a 4-player and 5-player games with two sets of ties.  I would suggest the following:

A - 4 = 1.5 B - 4 = 1.5 C - 2 = 0.5 D - 2 = 0.5

A - 4 = 1.5 B - 4 = 1.5 C - 3 = 0.8 D - 3 = 0.8 E - 1 = 0.4

A - 4 = 1.5 B - 4 = 1.5 C - 3 = 1 D - 1 = 0.5 E - 1 = 0.5

A - 4 = 2 B - 3 = 1 C - 3 = 1 D - 1 = 0.5 E - 1 = 0.5

I think the scoring system above is actually an improvement on the old system.  It rewards people for playing their best even if they aren't in the tie at the top of a time-out game.
