4th Edition Rulebook question

The new Rulebook is up on the Cactus website: http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/downloads/rules_4th_edition_final.pdf

I noticed there are no rules for Type 2 in this rulebook, nor in the updated REG.

I know these rules have been changed a bit since the last rulebook, so can we get an official update on all of the T2 deck rules?

*EDIT*

I noticed this in the new rulebook as well:

"The construction rules for tournament play are found in the expanded rulebook."

I can't find an "expanded rulebook" anywhere on the Cactus site yet.

I did a quick readthrough of the new rulebook, and I admire the extent they were able to simplify things for new players. I also can't find the "extended rulebook", as you noted, but if it's as well-written as this, that should help.

Kudos to the writers and editors of the beginner rulebook!

One thing that did strike me as strange - perhaps I've just always played this wrong:
"Mutual Destruction by Numbers
Both characters in battle are being defeated because of numbers only. You have initiative and can play a good enhancement of matching brigade. If you choose not to play a card, you must pass initiative to your opponent. Your opponent may play an enhancement. If your opponent chooses not to play a card, he must pass initiative back to you. If your opponent passes initiative back to you, then you must play an enhancement or the Battle Phase resolves."

I had always though that if you both pass in a row, you go right to Battle Resolution. I didn't realize that after two passes you can play a card again. (To put it in 90s kids' game show terms, I didn't know you could go for the Physical Challenge after a Double Dare.) Has this always been the case, or is this new?
EDIT: This was also the case in the 10th Anniversary book, so I suppose it was always there and I never knew! And I've been playing for over 15 years!

(Minor nitpicks... why is every number written like "eight (8)"? Why so many uses of "Hero(es)" and "Evil Character(s)"? Makes things a little harder to read quickly. Still very good overall.

As far as I know, this has always been the case but usually ignored because usually the hero will play an enhancement first or not have anything and pass, unless of course it's booster draft.  ::)

I also noticed that the basic rulebook does not include rules for Name-on-Name bonus. This rule is used by default correct?

This seems odd considering how many name on name situations can come up in these starters.

Things that seem to be different with this rulebook and the old one.

As Lamborghini_diablo has already stated, there are no Type II rules in the new rulebook. Plus, the name-on-name bonus isn't in there as well. But the other optional advance rules aren't in there either. Experience credit and rescuer's choice don't exist at all in the new rulebook. Plus, the rock, paper, scissors rules for targeting special ability's aren't in there as well. PLUS, concerning targets for special abilities in the far back end of the old rulebook is gone as well in the new one.

I feel like someone should get in contact with the people who made the new rulebook and tell them that there are people who need to see these rules. Instead of having the old rulebook and the new one on hand, it would make much more sense to have it all on one rulebook.

I'm glad you noticed.  One of the primary goals of the new starter deck packs was to have a fun group of cards that were very easy to play with, and to have a simple rulebook that would make it so that everyone who bought these would be able to quickly play a game together.

Naturally if people decided that they really liked the game and wanted to go farther with it on a deeper level, there will be resources (like the REG, the extended rulebook, this forum, and even projects like the Wiki) that will be able to answer all of the complicated questions :)

I suppose that's where the extended rulebook comes in. That doesn't seem to have been physically printed, thus, it can include whatever the elders want and be modified on the fly.

Now... having said that. Where is the extended rulebook?  ;)

Agree with Koala that it has actually been in there for as long as I have been playing (I think), but no one ever noticed or remembers it.  Fun when you bring it up at a tourney that you get to have that last opportunity to play before resolution ;)

I haven't had the chance to finish reading through the new rulebook yet, but I'm glad to see it is out now :)

So according to the new rule book, I am allowed to play an enhancement after a double pass, but not a dominant?  Whoa Nelly.
