My Opponent has peter captured in his LoB. Can I discard 4D Coin since peter is still in the field of play or not?

You may.

Agree based on all of the rulings regarding captured characters.  They can be "looked at/for" by special abilities but not "targeted as" for identifiers.

Which is stupid and needs to be made consistent.

Also agree.  My brother also pointed out that with the current definitions, a captured David still triggers cards like Bravery of David and the Red Canaanites.  Yay.
