This is the errata for Satan's Folly:
Errata: If a Hero is discarded later in this battle, discard an Evil Character in an opponent’s territory to heal that Hero.
The wording of "later in this battle" would seem to indicate that it must be first played in battle, which is not true of normal Healing cards.
